Cheerleaders As A Sport written by Mr. X is a successful essay on if cheerleading should or should be considered a sport. Its a successful piece because of the good tone and her good support. Mr. X's three types of support were he used statistics to make it sound more believable, had good counter argument and lastly used excellent examples.
Mr. X also used order of importance for his organization method which suits this topic well.

This essay was successful because of the support that Mr. X used, his first type of support he used was statistics. Mr. X used statistics almost right off the bat in his second paragraph, he states that "According to a MSNBC.com report from June 2009, cheerleading accosts for 65.2% of highschool and 70.5% of college fatal or serious injuries among female athletes". Usesing a statistic with real numbers it sounds more believable to the reader. He used this statistic to explain that most people believe that something isn't a sport without injuries and a danger factor to it and in fact cheerleading is one of the if not most dangerous sport for females to participate in. The second type of support Mr. X used was he counter argued the readers who do not believe it is a sport, the critics who do not believe it is a sport say that "critics argue against cheerleading as a sport because of its scoring system, which they view as subjective and unfair. A panel of judges evaluates the competing teams, assigns points according to difficulty and performance, and ranks teams by point totals". He then argues back by saying "Olympic sports such as diving, figureskating and gymnastics use similar scoring systems. Athletes of these sport are very

respected" By him accepting the non believers opinions but then arguing more and over powering it he proves that even though you have one thing that proves it isn't a sport I have
5 things that prove it is for the same reason. Lastly his final method of support is he uses good exaplmes to back everything up. Mr. X One example of this final method of support is that he uses actual schools and events that really happen such as when he states that "Last year at the National HIgh School Cheerleading Championship North Allegheny went just only a few seconds over the time limit, which resulted in deduction of points". By Mr. X usesing good examples such as that it sounds more believable to the reader because its a true fact.
The method of organization that was used in this essay was order of importance.
Mr. X stats the most important facts first such as talking about the high risk factor, the amount of practice cheerleaders put in and the body strength that you need to make it seem more like a sport. He used this organization method to draw the reader in right away he then listed some of the lesser importance's but finished strong again to give the reader something to remember. This was a good organization method for this essay because you want the reader to remember what your saying you don't want them to be bored out of their mind and forget every opinion you are talking about that would make it very unsuccessful.

The tone used throughout the piece was very successful, It was formal but not to formal. The author kept a great attitude throughout the entire piece and sounded very smart like he knew what he was talking about and he knew his opinion was the correct one. This gives the reader a feeling that this guy knows what he's talking about so I'm going to

believe in what he is saying, it was a success.

All and all this Cheerleading as a sport was a very convincing piece because the writer and good support and many good arguments. The writer could have appealed to authority to make it better and just that little bit more believable then it already is.
