How do the process strategies of eBay and McDonald’s differ, and how do their choices relate to customer- introduced variability?
The process strategy of McDonald’s involves high customer contact, because there is face-to face contact with the customers. In the same time, the products which McDonald’s offers are standardized, the customization level is low. On the other hand eBay has low customer contact, because eBay just enter in the system the product that you want and then you just receive your order.
Baker Machine Company is a job shop that specializes in precision parts for firms in the aerospace industry. Figure 3.13 shows the current block plan for the key manufacturing centers of the 75,000-square-foot facility. Refer to the following closeness matrix and use rectilinear distance (the current distance from inspection to ship- ping and receiving is three units) to calculate the change in the weighted distance, wd, score if Baker exchanges the locations of the tool crib and inspection.

Feedback
During the lecture all the explanations about process strategy was clear. I liked how the teacher went more into details while he was explaining the process structure in services and in manufacturing. He made compared and contrast those two processes and at the end he showed us a video which in my opinion was very useful. The only thing which was difficult for me and my group members was to solve exercise 3 which is about calculating the weighted score between the departments. This topic is still a bit unclear.
