Loneliness In Sharon Creech's 'Walk Two Moons'

¨You never know the worth of water until the well is dry¨ In the story Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech. This message is left on the foot of Phoebe´s porch by a neighbor named Mrs. Partridge. What I think what Mrs. Partridge is trying to tell us is that you never really know what something is worth until you lose it. All though this applies to every character in the story, it mostly applies to Phoebe, she is facing feelings which are loneliness and fear because her mother has has disappeared . The character in ¨Walk Two Moons¨ shows loneliness because Phoebe lost someone in her life which was her mother. Phoebe used to not appreciate her mother as much. In the text it states “I am, I am, I am! Phoebe shouted at her mother.” Once Phoebe's
mother disappeared, she notice how much she needed her. This has shown how loneliness have stood out due to Phoebe’s mother’s disappearance. Phoebe shows fear because for that past year or so there has been a man (AKA:The Lunatic) has been following her. For example on pages 59-60 this show that Phoebe will do anything to stay away from The Lunatic. But not only that phoebe also has the idea that The Lunatic has kidnaped her mother, which makes her not only fearful but mad. For example “ If he has already kidnapped your mother, why would he still be leaving these messages?”. This message relates to all people no matter what it is, because people, places, and things, are important once you lose it or don't appreciate it. Then you see yourself unhappy or depressed because you didn't appreciate what you had.
