TIPS ON SURVIVING A LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIP
A long-distance relationship (LDR) is typically an intimate relationship that takes place when the partners are separated by a considerable distance. This doesn’t mean that LDR are for teens only, it can also include married couples, young professionals or even the relationship between parents and their children especially the overseas workers.
There are many ways to sustain a good relationship, even though distance may be their barrier. One of which is by commuting with each other if possible, more than once every day. Technologies today are a big help. Phone calls, Video chatting, Social Networking sites, E-mails and many more can be a way to let each other know what you have been doing all day for them to feel that you may be not that far from them. For couples, here are some tips for you to look on. First, you should ask the important questions at the onset, to make sure you are both clear on the parameters of the relationship. Setting parameters such as naming your relationship (dating, seeing each other, boyfriend-girlfriend, engaged) as well as defining exclusive (limited to one person,) or non-exclusive. These can be difficult and awkward questions to ask, but will save you great heartache and misunderstanding down the line. Second, defy the distance. As a long distance couple, it's important to do other things together besides the usual phone call and do things together. You may not be doing it together physically but atleast it makes you feel like you’re just around with him or her. Third, avoid the temptation to be controlling. People have free will and no one can or should control another person. As long as you are both interested in being in the relationship, you will stick with it and distance will not make a difference.
