In this project we will explore the effects that running has on the body, the good and the bad. To explore such a subject we will be referencing the work of other scientists who have done experiments on such a subject, such as insert fancy names here. By the …show more content…
The primary forces that affects our bodies and joints when we run are the Ground Reaction Forces. The ground reaction forces come from Newton's third law, for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. What that means is when you push against the ground during your stride, the ground "pushes" back. These forces allow us to run, jump, skip and walk. They are essential to our everyday movements.
Unfortunately these forces, and mainly the vertical reaction force, don’t just effect us in a positive manner. They can lead to injury, primarily in the joints. The main ground reaction force that causes these types of injuries is the vertical ground reaction force. The vertical force is the force that pushes directly upwards( vertical) to us when we make contact with the ground.
In this graph we can see how strong the force over an impact period. The vertical force is the strongest and most impactful when the foot first makes contact with the ground. This is when most injuries occur, so what are these injuries and how can we prevent them? And is there any way that these ground reaction forces can have a positive impact on the
