Long Term Care: A Case Study
Hospitals and nursing homes both play different roles in providing long term care. Hospitals play a role in providing long term care in the areas of psychiatric, rehabilitation, chronic disease, orthopedics, and long term. Hospitals also provide outside patient services to those patients needing long term care in areas ranging from rehabilitation, mental health counseling to outpatient surgery. The role of nursing homes is to provide care for those people that are sick or functionally disabled that they need the constant nursing and support services provided in a formal health care facility, but are not acutely ill enough that they need the care a hospital provides (Williams, S.J.& Torrens, P.R., 2008).
