Look It's Camp Wahoo Summary
Chapter 1

Excitement Ahead, Look, It’s Camp Wahoo
“Wow! Look at that! Is that a mountain Mr. Weatherbee?”

The camp boat Searush moves steadily westward. Missy, Marcus, Buddy, Jody and Gregg are part of a group of thirty boys and girls, all first time campers, riding the boat Searush, to an island called Camp Wahoo, about five miles off the mainland. They are camping for a week during their summer vacation. Most of the children are full of excitement! So excited, that they clap their hands wildly! Laugh loudly! Chatter restlessly amongst each other. Some are quietly smiling. Some grin from ear to ear. While others eagerly stare ahead to see where Searush is heading. Suddenly a voice pierces the air! “I see it! I see the island! I see Camp Wahoo!” shouts little red-haired Jimmy with his tongue-tied speech.
“My, my, young man, you’re

“May we stay up late at night when we’re not sleepy and count the stars?” squeaks another voice from the back.
Marcus, who likes adventure, screams, “Maybe we can look for some hidden treasure on this island just like Robinson Crusoe did, in the pirate story of the Adventures of Robinson Crusoe.” All at once the children laugh and giggle as if they are in agreement with Marcus.
“No!” Buddy adds his suggestion. “Let’s climb up to the top of that big hill where the flagpole is and use a telescope to see how far we are away from home,” he exclaims. He demonstrates his suggestion with his fists clenched tightly, one in front of the other, up to his left eye, as if using a real telescope. The campers blurt out several more questions to the counselors. “Can we put a note in a bottle and throw it overboard?”
“That’s a super idea. Who knows, somebody in Alaska or Australia may find it washed up on shore,” one of the littlest campers suggests.
“Are there any snakes here at Camp Wahoo? I sure hope not, because I’m terribly scared of

The year was 1953. It was a cool, crisp twenty-ninth of October. Usually, after their chores and homework were done, Kathy, 8, and her brother Jonathan, 15, along with their friend May, 11, and her cousin Adam, 13, all went to Joe’s Arcade, the local hangout of Leaport, North Carolina. Instead, they all decided to meet at the end of their dead end street, Farrow Avenue, and go for a walk through the woods. They were all bored since the arcade was too crowded and supper wasn’t ready yet. Their town was a small town, so there wasn’t any other places to go besides the woods. Plus, the old, burned O’Leary house was out there.…

Set in the days of sails and ships, buried treasure and pirates, Treasure Island is an epic tale of a young boy by the name of Hawkins, and his search for the buried treasure of the notorious Captain Flint. Treasure Island is written by Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 94), his other texts include The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and Kidnapped. I choose to read and review this book because I was familiar with some of Stevenson's other work and I had also watched and enjoyed the children's version of Treasure Island. As a reader, I like reading books in which I have an idea of the plot, as it heightens my enjoyment of the reading experience.…

“Goal!” My heart sank as I took account of what had just occurred. I took a deep breath and lifted myself out of the warm lake water and onto the steel dock, bracing myself for the inevitable. “One, two, three!” A giant cracking sound blitzed my ears and before I could flinch, watermelon juice and chunks of the grainy fruit splattered onto my head. My campers cackled as I suffered the punishment of losing the camp-wide “Greasy Watermelon Soccer” tournament. Every session, the winning team of campers got to dump the contents of the jostled up fruit upon the counselor of the losing team, and it was my turn to be the victim. As a counselor at HoneyRock Camp, I relished silly moments like these. I had acquainted myself with songs about dancing mangoes, taken canoes of campers to spot the northern lights, and spent countless hours in the nurse’s office caring for open wounds. I started a wetwood fire, found true north without a compass, and perfected the art…
