The point of view this book is taken place is, is first person. Julian West was born in the late nineteenth century. The awkward gap between the rich and poor was where he stood in society. Like any other ordinary member of his social class, Julian has thought himself how to work hard and how to earn what he wanted. Julian was also well known for helping others when they were angry or frustrated. Julian was engaged to Edith Bartlett who was a Boston aristocrat. They were planning to get married when their new home was done with its construction, but because of all the angry and frustrated people in their town, the building's construction has delayed their marriage for over a year. With the constant fights going on in town, Julian deals with insomnia. Insomnia occurs when there is a consistent pater of sleepless nights. But he made the bet out of it and secretly built an underground sleeping chamber to shield himself from street noises. He also reached out to Doctor Pillsbury to help him with his sleeping problems, which he did by never letting Julian sleep for a long period of time. After …show more content…
He takes Edith shopping to her to reward her for all of the hard work she has done with the distribution center. After picking and choosing what she want, Edith gives her order to the clerk, who then gets all of her items from the Boston's storehouse. Julian surprises her by having the items that she ordered be delivered to their house before they arrive home. All of the items in each distribution center are all the same, even the villages that are separated are connected to storehouses by the vacuum tube system. Edith then explains to Julian the whole process of the vacuum tube system and how all of the different distribution centers do not mess up the orders from all of the different
