At first I was not actually interested in Lord of the Flies, but to be honest, I did not know what it was about. It was kind of uninteresting to read at first and I was just judging it by its cover. When the book became a little wilder and chaotic I did gain interest in it. I truly am fond of the idea of order and chaos in the world. This book is one of the several great examples. Most people might think that the book was order vs chaos. I, on the other hand, believe both order and chaos work together, not against each other. I feel both are needed. Order keeps us in line with things such as rules and guidelines, while chaos can let us have some fun in life. In fact,
order can come from chaos.
Iyer, Kartik. "Finding order in chaos through humor and mirth" TEDx. 5 Aug, 2015. YouTube. This TED talk sparked my interest right near the beginning. When Kartik said, “I believe they are both one in the same.” During this, on the board, were the words, “One doesn’t exist without the other.” These ideas closely relate to my own. He goes on to talk about how he works in advertising, and how he creates order from the chaos of his work. Basically chaos will sometimes create problems and he had to use order, in order to solve them. Near the end he made a really good point, that the chaos in our lives is there to help find order.
Taylor, Jeremy, director. “The Strange New Science of Chaos.” Nova. 31 Jan, 1989. At the start of this documentary we are introduced to The Chaos Game. I found it absolutely amazing how picking a random point, and rolling a die, can lead to such a uniform shape. That little game is probably the greatest example of chaos turning into order. They also talked about linearity. Linearity is a mathematical relationship that can be represented by a straight line, as in two quantities that are directly proportional to one another. This is sort of a representation of order. The weather is chaotic, it has no linearity, and this is why it is so hard to perfectly predict. The slightest movement or miscalculation could drastically change it.
