Lord of the Flies outside reading project
1. in both the novel the Lord of the Flies and the article “After British Riots, Conflicting Answers as to ‘Why’”, people are doing things they would never see them selves doing. In the article it says “People see that other people are involved and they’re encouraged.” I think by this they mean that people are only doing what other people are doing and they realize that maybe they should do the same. I also think that they feel like that because they are finally showing who they really are deep down inside of them. They showed that in reality they are going to riot and take things without paying. In the novel the Lord of the Flies most of the boys follow Jack with his hunting. The boys didn’t necessarily want to hunt or kill but they did it and showed that deep down inside thats what the human kind is, beasts.
2. I think an example from lord of the flies when the boys had an adrenaline-driven glee was when the boys killed Simon. The way they killed Simon was very intense. The boys seemed to enjoy it. The looters weren’t enjoying getting in trouble, but they just did it because it kind of felt like a relief to them.
3. In the article the police and in the novel the conch both things represent power. They also both represent civilization. The purpose of the conch was to get everyone to be civilized. Also, whoever had the conch had power and had the right to talk. In the article the police were arresting people to show them that they had all the power. They were trying to get everyone to be civil. The police wanted everyone to respect them because they’re the ones who can get them in trouble for stealing. I think they basically wanted to show everyone who’s really in charge.
In the novel Roger gets “caught up in the moment” and later he is “incredibly ashamed.” Roger killed piggy, at this moment he was acting very uncivilized. Roger threw rocks and piggy
