This could be as small as a bad grade on a test or having to do something you don’t want to do. But these situations can also be as big as the loss of a loved-one or even being stranded on an island. So during these times, how does one survive their Circumstance? An individual can survive any circumstance through hope, resilience, and an understanding of the importance of life. A survivor's mind understands the importance of life, and the beauty of a beating heart. A survivor will do anything it takes to stay alive and will never do anything that puts the life of someone else in danger. This is Jack Merridew. It has been many years since we last saw each other, and so much has happened since then. I’m sure you’re a very different person now, as am I. I am not that same boy you knew, fifteen years can really change a person. Ten years ago, you sent me a letter blaming me for Simon and Piggy’s deaths, and everything else that happened on the island. I didn’t respond back then because I was in the Seminary and was trying to worship god and put all that happened on the island behind me. I’m writing you this letter now because I am about to become a priest and I feel that I need to clear things up as a last act before I start my new life. This way I can start out with a clean slate.…

Providing complex themes forces the reader to think and provides a takeaway from the book that they can find useful in reality. Dynamic characters allow the reader to expect change which keeps them hooked in. “To Kill A Mockingbird” is without a doubt a timeless classic because of the meaningful messages it provides and its dynamic character who undergoes stark changes by the end of the novel.…

Although at the beginning of the story the boys are obsessed with law and order; but near the end of the book, the boys get into a short-sided and life changing war; just like the United States in 1945. Everyone struggles. Most often, hardships are buried beneath the surface. We have a tendency to act like we have everything under control, when in reality, we don’t. Mental illness can be hard to overcome, but those who are affected can be pros at pretending to be okay. Not all hardships are that dark - common issues like a recent break-up are hard to overcome too. But one thing I have learned is that everyone can overcome their obstacles. I’m in the process of overcoming an obstacle of my own. Most people (unless they’re on my team), would never guess that I have a medical condition that affects my breathing.…
