Lord of the Flies Final Essay In the novel Lord of the Flies, William Golding reveals how the first enemy one has is their own self. From the famous quote “We have met the enemy and they are ours” by Commander Hazard, Golding uses a threatening tone when the boys on the island start to realize that fear is within the mind and that fear causes a desire for savagery.
