many examples of kids bullying each other. As kids making bad decisions by choosing to bully other kids to make them feel better about themselves, but in the end, all the bullying leads to just making someone feel worse about themselves instead of better. Damaged feelings makes people feel horrible about themselves. For example, in the beginning of the book Ralph picks on Piggy. For instance, the fat boy told Ralph what they used to call him that his old school. The fat boy said “they used to call me Piggy,” (Golding 11). Then Ralph just shrieked with laughter when Piggy told him his name (Golding 11). Piggy knows how it feels to pick on. He knows that he is out of place. In fact, Ralph does not care about how Piggy feels. Ralph laughed because he thought it was funny. Jack said “you are talking too much. Shut up, Fatty,’’ (Golding 21). Ralph said, “he not Fatty, his real name's Piggy,” (Golding 21). Piggy did not want Ralph to tell the other kids that his name was Piggy. Since Piggy is fat he knows that he doesn’t belong. Ralph demanded “you are no good at a job like this,” (Golding 24). Piggy wants to fit in with the other guys. He wants to show them that he is strong, and he can do it. Ralph and the other boys should give him a chance. Even though people get to pick on stay stronger and stand up for the people.
When people meet someone they judge them by their looks like Jack did with Piggy. As a matter of fact, Jack started by telling Piggy to shut up. Jack said “you are talking too much. Shut up, Fatty,” (Golding 21). Since Piggy is fat and annoying Jack didn’t want to hear what he had to say. Sometimes people don’t like hearing the truth. Also sometimes people don’t like hearing the other people’s opinions. Piggy is overweight, so Jack is not going to give him the time of the day. All Piggy wants to do is try to help; he wants to feel like a hero. Piggy just wants to feel a cool kid because he has never got the chance to because everyone has picked on him. Another reason has Jack just snatched the glasses right off Piggy’s face, (Golding 40). Jack does not care that Piggy needs them. Jack wants to be the powerful kind. Jack only cares about himself and does not care about anyone else. He will do whatever it takes, no matter who he has to hurt. Jack said “you are always scared. Yah-Fatty,” (Golding 45). Piggy does not feel like he belongs. Piggy does not feel like he because he is fat. Honestly, the guys should just give him a chance. Do not judge a book by the because people can be surprising. In the end, they could even be the heroes without even trying.
Even though bullying was shown throughout Lord of the Flies.
The characters made a poor decision in not helping each other out. For instance, Ralph and Jack are also getting into arguments (Golding 91). One of their arguments leads into breaking the groups apart. Jack said “ I gave you food and my hunters will protect you from the beast. Who will join my tribe,” (Golding 150). Jack want the power all the way. He hated how someone else was the leader. They should have been more worried about the little kids than getting into arguments. Another, bad decision that made was picking Ralph for chief. Ralph continued “I’m chief then,” (Golding 23). Ralph was not that bad of lead, but they should not of picking him because they did not know him. Also, Ralph doesn’t know the island because they are stuck on this island. The lead should have been picked by strength and qualities not by how they look or know them. The kid's mess around and some took it too far like when Piggy died. Roger throws threw a rock and it hit Piggy right in the stomach (Golding 181). Piggy died because of Ralph and Jack fighting. In the book, it said Jack hit Ralph (Golding 179). The boys should have been thinking about what was going to when they were fighting. When people fight you never know when someone can get hurt. These two boys kept fighting because they both wanted to be chief of the island. everything.
Bullying and bad decisions happen in everyday life.
Other kids don’t like being a bully like Piggy gets bully all the time it hurts his feelings. Did they ever think of how he ever felt? Which leads other kids to make bad decisions and not think right. At the end, they might regret but still. Ralph at beginning picking Piggy did not give Piggy any confidence. Piggy just wants to make friends and be one of the cool kids. He has been picked on his whole life he hasn’t got that chance. Then Jack just picks on Piggy all the time made him feel like he did not belong. Then Ralph and Jack fighting all time, cost someone life without them notice that what happen. No one is perfect and no one will ever be perfect. Everyone is going to make a big mistake that you can’t change. Everyone should get a chance to do something even though they had problems or they are
overweight.
