The Lakers are on their first extended road trip of the season, where they will play 16 of their next 20 games. Usually team tend to come together and form a solid bond on the road, hopefully that will be the case for the 2015-16 Los Angeles Lakers.
Instead of spending time seeing some of the beautiful 19th century row houses on tree-lined Kent street in historic Greenpoint, the stunning views of the Manhattan skyline from Brooklyn Heights, or traveling to see the historic brownstones in Bedford-Stuyvesant the vintage shops …show more content…
in Greenpoint or experiencing the fall foliage at Prospect Park the Lakers are here on business to secure their first win of the season.
The Lakers have won 13 of 16 against Brooklyn, but dropped both meeting with the Nets last year, outscored 221-204, snapping a seven-game road winning streak that dated back to 12/22/06.
The Purple and Gold are 3-3 since the franchise moved to Brooklyn.
The Los Angeles Lakers look to avenge a 107-99 loss in Brooklyn on 3/29/15. The current Purple and Gold guards will match up against former Laker Wayne Ellington. The biggest culprit that is separating the purple and gold from adding positive numbers to the win column is their defense or the lack thereof.
By the numbers, The Lakers offense ranks fourth in the NBA at 106.8 points per game, however their defense ranked 30th, dead last, allowing 116.8 points per game. The Nets offense ranks 29th in the NBA at 89.8 points per game, their defense ranks 23rd allowing 104.4 points per game.
Two things that bear watching, the Nets on average score 40.8 points in the paint and commit 15.4 turnovers. The Lakers need to slow Brooklyn’s leading scorer, seven-foot center Brook Lopez, averaging 20 points per game on 56.9-percent shooting.
Tonight’s contest is an intriguing match up; one winless team, currently, allowing the most points in the league, against another winless team that has struggled to score. The fact of the matter is after 48 minutes, or two and a half hours one team will win this
game!
Defense and intensity were the watch words at Lakers practice; although the answer to the question ‘have the players got the memo’ will be answered before 7:00 pm tonight.
There is no denying that this will be a long season for the Los Angeles Lakers and their fans, although when dealing with young team patience comes with the territory taking the good with the bad, basically in a holding pattern waiting for the young players develop and then rise to the occasion.
It is imperative that the Lakers control the tempo of the game, utilize excellent ball movement and excellent player movement to find the open man for high percentage shots and limit their three point shots to the ones that are within the offense.
Defensively, Los Angeles has to stop the ball, get back in transition, do a good job against the pick and roll play, challenge every shot, rotate out to the three-point shooters, box out and rebound.
If the Lakers can secure their first win it would be appropriate to have a celebratory dinner at either Keens Steakhouse on 36th street, Peter Luger’s on 178 Broadway or St. Anselm on Metropolitan avenue. The Lakers have time to hit all three seeing as their next game is against the Knicks on 11/8/2015.
