When I transferred to Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU), I was fortunate to be selected to the Honors Transfer Fellows program. As a requirement of this program, I was required to complete an undergraduate thesis and take additional classes along with the regular curriculum for my major. While this project was a valuable experience, it was also challenging to balance the workload of conducting thesis research, attending classes, working part time, and working as a clinician at the MTSU Speech Clinic. Over the past year, I have developed skills, such as time management and prioritization, that have helped me succeed as a student at MTSU. Additionally, completing a thesis while attending classes and working has helped me become an independent student. To explain, over the course of the entire project, I had only two deadlines, one for the proposal submission and one for thesis submission. As a result, I had to create my own deadlines for various aspects of the thesis, such as data collection and analysis.…

Workplace pressures have focused a great deal of attention on the low-skilled adult. The industry has changed over the past decade, putting adults out of work who now require education, and the credentials to build their abilities to earn family wages (O'neill and Thomson 2013). Adult students are not only returning to school for their job security but also to gain more knowledge in the technology world. The adult students grew up with a hardbound textbook now students have the luxury of electronic books which is something that most adult students are not familiar with.…
When attending a college fair, you may expect to go in walk, walk up to a desk, and them tell you exactly what you want and need to know. However, that is not always the case, sometimes the answers you want are hidden beneath fifteen pamphlets and the proper wording. The representatives are not mind readers, they can only tell you what you ask, and they are not google, they may not be able to answer every single question you have. Nevertheless, college fairs provide prospective students with much needed information about where their future will be spent.…

Is college going to be like what it looks like in movies? Are my roommate and I going to get along? Can I keep my grades up without falling behind? Are people going to like me? Am I going to like them? These were just some of the questions running through my mind as I made my way to Clinton, Iowa. It was finally move in day and although nervous, I was excited! Finally a freshman in college, living in a dorm without my parents, and moving on with the next step of my life was something I had been anticipating since my freshman year in high school but now that it was actually happening, I did not know what to expect. The drive to Ashford University was only about 2 hours long, but still those 2 hours were spent contemplating every little detail about the next four years of my life. To say the least, I was nervous.…
