The school is named after Agnes Campbell Macphail, a Canadian politician who served as the first female Member of Parliament in the Canadian House of Commons. The school, founded in 1981, stood for many of the same things that Macphail did, including her commitment to greatness. She informed the Dean of Special Programs of her concerns regarding the student’s mental state, and that the student has been very confrontational about getting a passing grade. The dean instructed her that she needed additional training in dealing with students with disabilities, because there will be many other students like Richard enrolled in her classes in the future. Blue made sure to see that the students were receiving positive feedback. When each of the students entered the room, they retrieved their binders and all sat down quietly. Each of the students were very respectful to each other in that whenever someone raised their hand to speak, they were the only ones who spoke. There was no character development program or a posted set of rules displayed in her classroom. In her classroom she did the majority of the talking while the students listened and answered her questions. In the high school classroom, there was quite a bit of talking and disruption among the students in the beginning. Early on, the Cobles were in control of Donny and made sure he was in check. However, feeling Donny’s love for them and demeanor towards school slipping, they let Donny start going to Cal’s for tutoring. This decision was the worst thing that could have happened to Donny. As Donny’s teacher said in a phone call to his mother, Mrs. Coble, “Back when you were helping Donny with his homework, his grades rose from a D to a C, but now they’ve slipped back, and they’re closer to an F.” As the teacher duly notes, Donny is in trouble. The sense of relief and togetherness the test subjects felt after the experiment seemed helpful to improve their function as a unit and even helped to raise test scores. When injustice befalls among children, they look towards a trusted adult to understand why they are being mistreated. The concept may confuse school aged kids. The way Mrs. Elliott confronts this is correct because in the end all of the children take away a positive message indicating that unfairness is wrong. This actually is a reliable way of teaching discrimination because if they didn't have to go through that experience, they may not know how to respond later on in life when witnessing someone being discriminated against. Lucy was a very smart girl. She was in college and was a brilliant student. She would do all her homework and always got the best grades. However, her life had many difficulties since she was a little girl. She had been sexually abused by her dad. When Lucy was 5, she was taken by the police and had been put under adoption because of what had happened to her. Since Lucy was 4 when she had been abused, many people thought that she wouldn't remember anything about what had happened to her.
