The theme of love is very prominent in the first scene, the airport. The scene came off as natural symbolizing the act of coming together especially during Holidays. By opening up with this scene the viewers were given the reality of emotion and pure love which followed throughout the movie. The movie was set in the time of Christmas, “Christmas is the time to be with the people you love”, as said by singer Billy Mack. The first scene directly relates to the scene that ended the movie. Many symbols were present throughout the scene, including the rings being a symbol of unity and promise, which is the foundation of marriage. The wedding sets the tone of love, yet is also a platform for betrayal. Subtle signs are shown throughout the wedding that show Mark is lusting after the bride of his best friend. In fact he’s even questioned by another person attending the wedding about whether he’s in love with his best friend, another aspect of humor. There was a sense of irony because Mark wasn’t in love with his best friend but rather the wife of his best friend. In a future scene the actual footage Mark shot of the wedding was shown. The only thing he had filmed was Juliet, a clear symbol of his betrayal to his best friend. Confusion was created later on when Juliet kissed Mark. Throughout the movie there were instances of contradiction that created a confusing atmosphere. The viewers were left wondering why Juliet kissed
