Love and Death
As I began watching this film, it starts off with Jodie Foster who plays Clarice Starling climbing a rope up a hill. Clarice is smart, she is strong, and she is most likely a very talented member of the law enforcement. As she is running, we are informed as viewers that Special Agent Crawford would like to speak to her. She’s given the task to interview and pass a survey to incarcerated serial killer. A simple task to do and it seems simple enough, but there is only one serial killer left to interview and you guessed it, it is Dr. Hannibal Lecter.

In M, the audience gets a clear sense of how difficult it might have been to capture a predator such as Beckert in 1930’s. Today’s law enforcement is much more equipped to identify and track possible predators; however, this was not the case in M. The police at one point had been investigating the murders for over eight months with no success in getting closer to catching the murderer. Progress was not made until police continuously raided local establishments and disrupted criminal activity. The bosses of the criminal underworld banded together to assist in catching Beckert…

***************************************************************************************************** Hannibal didn't know that he could experience emotional pain and anguish, but when he is separated from Will, he knows that that is not the case. When the door of the jail cell shuts behind him, he feels a stab of pain in his chest at the thought of never seeing Will again. Being separated from Will and never seeing his beautiful face again made him sick to his stomach. When he had been incarcerated previously, he had not felt alone. People often came to visit and interview him (He was "Hannibal the Cannibal" after all), but the reason he didn't feel alone was because he knew that Will would have to come and see him.…

When reading A Murder in Virginia many questions arise about why this book is important and even why the story about Lucy Pollard death mattered in 1895 let alone why it matters to us now in 2015. Suzanne Lebsock doesn't come right out and tell you the answers to these questions, rather she leaves subtle hints throughout the book and tells you why she thinks it is important to learn about in the last chapter of the book. I think she does it this way so you can formulate your own ideas and your own reasons on why the Lucy Pollard case is an influential piece of history.…

“Certain psychological problems have been known to be inheritable and if given the right circumstances, individuals with those genes could find themselves engaging in criminal activity” (Jones 2005.) In the case of Edward Gein, biological genes and the fact that his mother controlled his environment as a child did create the perfect circumstance for him to become a criminal. The evidence in modern day science explains that such criminal behavior is due to any number of mental illnesses which Gein did in fact suffer. He demonstrates textbook signs of a psychopathic individual. The following will review Edward Gein’s childhood and criminal history. Along with evidence showing Gein’s most likely genetic structure; which will explain his psychopathic tendencies, Gein’s criminal behavior is a result of a perfect circumstance and can be directly associated with this simple evaluation of his genetic makeup and his environment as a child.…

Interviews with suspects can be very intriguing, especially with high profile cases. As I watch the interview with Huddleston it reminded me of previous interviews I had conducted with lesser crime cases. The similarities are there, when the suspect tried to get the interviewer to be sympathize with their story. It’s a mix of emotions and doubt for the interviewer. Surely during Huddleston interview there was doubt if he had committed the murder.…

One of my favorite movies ever is Silence of the Lambs. This is filled with psychology and layered characters. Two characters that stick out to me are Hannibal and Buffalo Bill. Lecter talks to Starling because he finds her interesting. This is because she has had a traumatic childhood which caused her a lot of mental pain. Though she disguises it well, she is essentially one of his patients. She still hears the slaughtered lambs screaming in her sleep so she constantly works to try to save anyone she can, with hopes that saving someone will keep the sounds and screams out of her head. Hannibal can see right through this and is interested by her story and intent to save as many victims as possible. He also talks to her because she is smart and doesn’t fall into any traps. Lecter likes this about her and he wants to see what is in her mind that avoids his tricks and is so focused. He tells her that he has no plans to call on her meaning that he doesn’t intend to kill her. Hannibal won’t kill her because he likes her character and thinks that she is useful and should be kept around.…

Hannibal Lecter is the primary character in the “Hannibal” movie series and will be the subject of psychiatric evaluation for this paper. The series is comprised of 4 films (“Hannibal Rising”, “Silence of the Lambs”, “Red Dragon”, “and Hannibal”) which follow Lecter’s life from youth to adulthood. Lecter is a white male of average height and weight; he is a brilliant doctor and exceptionally well mannered and educated individual. Hannibal Lecter was born in Lithuania in the year of 1933 to a wealthy, aristocratic family. In the midst of World War II, Hannibal, his parents and younger sister, Mischa, relocated to a cabin in the woods to escape the war. Here, tragic events took place. First, Lecter and his sister witness their parents murdered during an explosion involving a group of Nazi military men. The Nazi men, in desperate need of food killed and cannibalized Lecter’s younger sister, which Hannibal witnesses first hand. This traumatic event can be marked as the driving force of Lecter’s sadistic ways. Lecter was than sent to an orphanage where he acted out frequently; he often ran away, lied, stole, and displayed significant extreme aggression towards others. Lecter also had a tendency to wake up screaming in the night after experiencing frightening nightmares. Hannibal was often caught speaking to his dead sister who he later claimed he was carrying out “deeds” for. Lecter was often taunted for his strange behavior.…

I believe one of the most interesting characters within the film is Hannibal Lecter. Hannibal Lecter’s personality seems to be antisocial in the fact that he does not like interact with people too often. He seems to tolerate most people, like the police officers that feed him and Clarice. Hannibal suffers from Antisocial Personality Disorder; also know as a psychopathy. Within the movie Dr. Chitton describes Hannibal Lecter as “a pure psychopath” (Demme). Some of the key symptoms of psychopaths that match up with Hannibal’s personality include: “glib and superficial, grandiose sense of self-worth, lack of remorse or guilt, lack of empathy, deceitful and manipulative, impulsive, [and] poor behavioral control […]” (suite101.com). As far as motives go for Hannibal Lecter, his main objective seems to be escaping from jail and continuing on with his cannibalistic ways. He mentions to Clarice after he escapes jail “I do wish we could chat longer but...I'm having an old friend for dinner […]” (Demme). Hannibal’s character within the movie remains constant, except for the fact that he decides to spare Clarice’s life. Hannibal says to Clarice on the phone: “I have no plans to call on you, Clarice. The world's more interesting with you in it […]” (Demme). I think Hannibal is the antagonist in the film, because he tries to avoid and/or oppose any questions Clarice asks. Hannibal also opposes the police that try to feed him by unhooking his handcuffs, hooks one of the police officers onto the jail cell bar, beats him to death, and skins off the skin of the other officer to cover his own face to fool the EMTs. Overall Hannibal Lecter is a purely demented, but interesting character that makes The Silence of the Lambs an outstanding…
