Love, Faith and Trust
The qualities of a human being- have we completely lost them?
‘When life gives you a hundred reasons to cry, show life that you have a thousand reasons to smile.’
Maybe that’s the motto that the two boys I met in Verona follow. They have so many reasons to complain. They are just 12 or 13 year old kids and yet have faced so much that even a tough man would have shattered if he had to only listen to their story. The war has devastated their life, destroyed their family. From the children of a well known singer they are now two orphans who spend day and night on the streets of Verona working hard to cure their sister, who is in fact their only family in the whole wide world. And yet, when offered help, they refuse humbly, like two true gentlemen. When asked whether it is necessary to work so hard, they reply with equal humility, “We are not complaining, Sir”.
It has been very rightly said that ‘Only love can change pain into pleasure’.
I just wonder if two small kids can show such a spirit to love and care someone, that they are ready to forget their own woes and make happiness a part of their sacrifice, then why not the others. After all to love is no supernatural power nor is it the part of any science fiction. It comes together with us when we are born. Then, where do we lose it? You might say life and its hardships and our numerous sacrifices to it make us lose it. What about these two kids then? Would you say that they didn’t face such hardships as you have? Or would you say you are ready to exchange your life with theirs and prove that even they won’t be able to hold on to their power to love if they were in your place? Or would you say that you don’t get the opportunities to show that you have those same powers because you are too busy?
