    1. Updike arranges details artfully in order to set the story in a perfectly ordinary supermarket. His description of the appearance of the supermarket itself offers a vivid image. Updike talks about a girl in a bathing suit “in the cool of the A & P, under the fluorescent lights, against all those stacked packages, with her feet padding along naked over our checkerboard green-and-cream rubber-tile floor” (14). This offers the perfect description of a modern supermarket. The way in which Updike describes the three girls walking down the aisles adds to the supermarket image. Updike explains, “The fat one with the tan sort of fumbled with the cookies, but on second thought she put the packages back. The sheep pushing their carts down the aisle” (14). The author adds to the illustration with a description of this consumer, whose approach and actions reflect those of any supermarket customer.…

The deaf community believes a deaf person's ability to live a full and meaningful life is not compromised by his or her deafness, so the suggestion that cochlear implants provide advantages over a deaf lifestyle is shortsighted and insensitive. Many deaf people deal very well with their deafness, learning sign language and lip reading and adapting their work and home environments to accommodate their loss of hearing. Another controversy surrounding cochlear implants and the deaf community is the safety and effectiveness of the procedure. Cochlear implants may be viewed as disrespectful and insulting, since the medical community views deafness as a handicap which must be treated or corrected. Most people do not want to have cochlear implants they are afraid of hearing the world around them. Most of the time these controversial issues build up when the person is an adult and has spent most of their time being deaf and now have all those concerns about the cochlear implants.…

The ending of The Grapes of Wrath is solely focused on the final redemptive acts of both John and Rose of Sharon. Their actions make this ending unlike any other of Steinbeck’s novels. In many ways Rose of Sharon was especially in need of redemption up until the very end of The Grapes of Wrath. Throughout the novel, Steinbeck uses John and Rose of Sharon to portray certain themes or represent deeper ideas. In the final chapters, Steinbeck uses them to create a final and concluding sense of redemption.…

Adam Levine was inspired to write “She Will Be Loved” while he was in a struggling relationship with Kelly McKee. In fact, the entire album Songs About Jane (2002) was inspired by that relationship. “The Passionate Shepherd to His Love” by Christopher Marlowe is most likely the most famous pastoral poem of the carpe diem or “seize the day” style. Its inspiration was most likely to convince a girl that life would be beautiful and filled with pleasures if she would be with him—his goal being seduction.…

The president, plant supervisor, and plant foreman of the Film Recovery Systems plant outside of Dallas are being indicted for murder, due to one of their employees collapsing and dyeing there in the plant. The medical examiner pronounced his death as a homicide due to cyanide poisoning. The cadaver was identified as a Vietnamese immigrant who spoke very little English. The judge did convict them, thanks to the prosecutors showing sufficient evidence of how the company knowingly hired illegal aliens, to work in their plants. They also included the fact that the officials never informed the workers of the hazardous and dangerous things that could occur due to them being around open vats of bubbling cyanide. Some workers did testify on the prosecutor’s side stating how sometimes the odor was so strong they had to often run outside to vomit. The defense attorneys did argue that the federal and state regulatory agencies never mention that what was going on the plantation wasn’t allowed. Judge Banks said that the executives were more than aware about the situations and how unsafe the conditions were, so he pronounced them guilty of murder. They did decide to appeal the case, stating how they should have not been criminally liable for the workers death.…

Inventory, in most of the industries, accounts for the largest proportion of gross working capital. A number of studies, therefore, have been conducted to find the determinants of investment in inventories. The following discussion provides a brief review of studies, dealing with factors influencing investments in inventory in India. Economic studies to analyze the factors that influence inventory accumulation in India, are based on time series and pooling of cross section of time series data pertaining to manufacturers’ inventories. Krishnamurty’s study (1964) was aggregative and dealt with inventories in the private sector of the Indian economy as a whole for the period 1948-61. This study used sales to represent demand for the product and suggest the importance of accelerator. Short-term rate of interest had also been found to be significant. Sastry’s study (1996) was a cross-section analysis of total inventories of companies across several heterogenous industries for the period 1955-60 using balance sheet data of public limited companies in the private sector. The study brought out the importance of accelerator represented by change in sales. It also showed negative influence of fixed investment on inventory investment. Last January 19, 2013, we attended a seminar for our Synthesis Class. The whole activity can be summarized to 3 words “Who am I”. Early morning going up to the OH 3rd floor, I didn’t know what we were going to do. I arrived late since I was asked to pick up the sound system for the day’s activity, when I arrived everyone was in the squat position performing some sort of exhibition. That’s when I remembered we were asked to bring mats for yoga. I hurriedly but quietly entered the room, took a spot next to my friends and followed through. My yoga experience was amazing, I have tried it before but I was on my own with the instructor on the television. The thing I remember most from the instructor is that: “relax the mind and body if a thought comes in, don’t push it away but embrace the thoughts”. Next up was a more strenuous activity since it involves all the muscles in your body, yes! DANCING. I can say my dancing skills are in between, I’m not good or bad at it so the easy steps given where a help. After a few minutes of rest and for us to change, we continued the program. This part is the financial literacy, where we were given clays for us to form one want and one need, for my need I decided to make a graduation hat and diploma, this symbolizes that what I need right now is to graduate. For my want I, it is a fact that I really like going on vacations whether alone or with my family and friends and so, with the unending this being required of us in school what I rellly want right now is to take a break and have a vacation, so I created a person swimming in the sea with a sun. Then we were tasked to write in the paper our net value, I realized that I’m not worth a lot but my liability is zero, I do not like the idea of owing money to someone, My parents has taught me to pay all my borrowed money even if it is 1 peso. Lunch was served late since we also started late, afterwards we continued. Next up is Emotional – How well do we know…
