Loretta Young once said “Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.” This popular theme is present in Gary Soto’s work.Victor, the protagonist in the short story Seventh Grade and the protagonist in the poem Oranges both have a goal which is to convince the girl they like to fall in love with them.
The goal in both stories was that the main characters is trying to impress a the girl they like. Victor, the main character in Seventh Grade likes a girl named Teresa. She had been his crush since catechism school when they were younger. At the end of the story, she fascinated that he “knows” how to speak French.
