They grew up only forty minutes away from each other. Both of the boys played for organized team and both lead them in scoring. One day while Spencer was shooting baskets, his parents noticed a lump in his thigh. They took him to the doctor and found out that spencer had been diagnosed with cancer. This started a long trial of chemotherapy . While only forty minutes away josh was continued playing basketball getting stronger and healthier.
Later that year a miracle happened and spencer was cancer free. He went back to playing basketball all day and all night. But just when they thought things were only getting better they got worse. Around christmas time spencer entered remission and was told he only had a 4% chance of living and his chemo and intensive radiation treatment began. Then josh's parents began to notice something wrong which started with a lot of coughing. Later they found out that josh had cancer.

a basketball game on tv which turned into an amazing friendship that would last a lifetime. They would spend most of their time together both going over to each others houses because they felt like they finally found someone who understood each other's pain. Then a miracle happened for another time. Spencer survived his cancer for the second time and began to play basketball again.
It was great that spencer was better but josh was getting worse his cancer started to spread and he was getting sicker and sicker. For a release from everything josh would go to spencer basketball games when he was able to. A little while later josh had passed away and it devastated josh's family, friends and especially spencer. It slowed spencer down but he knew that he had to get back to basketball because it's what josh would have wanted. It's a few days before the state game and the basketball team is asked to do something be their coach. “I want you to chose someone to dedicate this game to, whoever it is i want you to write a letter to them, and if they aren't alive send it to their parent or sibling.”
This choice was obvious to spencer so he took the ball his coach was passing around and put josh’s name on the ball.
He went on to writing to josh's parents saying “we were asked to dedicate this game to someone and my choice was obvious, i want to dedicate this game to josh.” So now we're back it's 81-82 and theres 2.2 seconds left on the clock. Spencer goes and asks his coach “ what do you want me to do?” And his answer was clear. “Take your best shot.” 2.2 seconds on the clock. Spencer gets the ball, running down the court jumps from half and the ball glides through the air right into the basket and they win 84-82. Spencer knew that now the shot counts for something… It counts for
josh.
