Low Self-Esteem Low self-esteem is a growing problem amongst the young teens and growing adults of our generation. This problem has been around for decades, but has recently become something to really start looking at, especially in middle school and high school. I believe that kids have honestly gotten mean and don’t mind being hurtful. That is why I have chosen to write about the causes and effects of this issue. There are many causes to this situation and I would like to talk about just a few of them today. When I was growing up I can remember always being a little heavier set up until about eighth grade. I had the glasses, braces, and the pre-teen acne. It was not fun! Now, all of these things that young teens go through are just some of the problems we face that lead to having problems with our selves. Now you have to think about the bullying factor. Kids are extremely mean and hurtful with their words these days and don’t even think twice about it! They don’t ever stop to think about what someone else might be going through. I find it very appalling! Now that we have talked about some of the causes of low self-esteem let’s talk about some of the effects. Every day it seems like you are hearing about someone else who has either killed themselves or someone else because they were being bullied. For example, Amanda Todd was a young girl, being bullied, and ended up ending her life. This is not something that should be taking lightly by any means! These scenarios might also cause depression, alcoholism, and many other issues for people everywhere. I hope that this paper really opens people’s eyes to what a big problem this really is, and how it should not be taken light heartedly. You can do something to stop it and you can also influence others to help. I guarantee that if more people just took a minute to really stop and think about what they were about to say before they said it, this issue would be less of a
