In this game I experienced downward mobility because I felt like just when I would get ahead in the game I would land on an expensive property and it would set me back that much further.
My income was not sufficient for my needs. Being lower class and starting out with the little money, and seeing the upper class start out with so much more, opened my eyes. I realized that I am very blessed because the opportunity’s to buy properties and expand, trade and other things to grow your empire came a thousand times easier to the upper and middle class. Often times I wonder why lower class don’t go to college as much as the middle class, and I realized through this game it is because the opportunity just is not there, because there parents probably don’t have an education and so it not promoted and they don’t have the money, These people work extra hard to make something more of
themselves.
The kid who was upper class sort of took on the stereo typical role of upper class people making snide comments, and looking down upon us lower class. At one point of the game one of the middle classmen landed on my property the rent was sixteen dollars and he gave me a twenty and told me to keep the change. Almost as if he thought he was doing me a favor by giving me a handout making me feel incompetent of making my own money. By the end of the game us lower class people didn’t really like the upper-class people. I guess I kind of took on the attitude of why me? Why do these guys get to essentially “win’ this game before we even start. I felt as if I had already lost. Overall the game felt not fair, the relation to the four perspectives and different classes was right on point. Giving us all a greater understanding of how hard it really is to make it in life when you start off with initially nothing, and everyone else has so much. When you are mortgaging properties, and others are buying hotels to put on theirs. I would say this whole game in general represents the conflict theory. Society is characterized on class, gender, and other factors. You create your situation based off of those things and how you grow up. Regardless of a situation and how hard it may be, I still think that no matter what class or however much money you may have, there is help out there for those who want to succeed in life.
