Nicole Richie had once said, “It's hard to tell who has your back, from who has it long enough just to stab you in it”. She is correct in her suspicion because even foes pretend to be allies, so that they can have an advantage over their opponents, as their pretences are difficult to detect. The theme of betrayal, a theme made evident in the quote, is also present in Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. The quote by Nicole Richie is correct because foes may appear as allies to gain an advantage, which is shown throughout the scenes of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.…

    Jealousy In Julius Caesar

The character Cassius in the tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare constantly reflects palpable jealousy. In Act I Scene II, Cassius claims “I was born free as Caesar; so were you:/We both have fed as well, and we both/Endure the winter’s cold as well as he…”(Shakespeare, lines 5-7); and feels king Caesar does not deserve superiority over him. In this scene, Cassius is pointing out to Brutus that he and Cassius deserve the power to lead Rome more than Caesar. In order to prove these points, Cassius shares three stories with Brutus in his speech: one of when he and Caesar had a swimming contest; another when he saw Caesar sickly and frail after a fever; and lastly one where Caesar again is portrayed as a weak and sickly man. In the monologue by Cassius directed at Brutus, Cassius uses paradox, self-heroic word choice and similes throughout three separate stories to give examples of Caesar’s weaknesses. Cassius’ main goal becomes to portray Caesar as any other man; and to rationalize killing the king to gain power for (what he…

How can one man’s closest friend also be that man’s murderer? This is precisely what happens in Julius Caesar. Brutus kills his closest friend, Julius Caesar, and then he gives his justification for doing so in his speech at Julius Caesar’s own funeral. Although his speech was flawed, the crowd of people he spoke to were easily swayed, and they accepted Brutus’ justification. Unfortunately for Brutus, he allowed Mark Antony, another one of Caesar’s close friends to speak after him. His speech completely reversed the crowd’s opinion. Comparing Brutus and Antony’s funeral speeches is an important topic because it is a turning point in the conspirator’s attempts to sway the Roman people. The comparison shows how a few crucial errors on the conspirator’s part, along with a great speech by Antony, completely altered the outcome of the entire play. In comparing Brutus and Antony’s speeches, it becomes evident that Antony’s speech was much more effective than Brutus’ speech in four key areas: ethos, pathos, logos, and chronos.…

Today, I am going to attempt to explain why; the Articles of Confederation was changed to the U.S. Constitution. On November 15, of 1777 the Articles of Confederation served as the written document that established the functions of the national government of the United States after it declared independence from Great Britain. (HTT5) Approval of the Articles of Confederation by all thirteen states did not take place until March 1, 1781. The Articles created a loose confederation of sovereign states and a weak central government, leaving most of the power with the state governments. (HTT6) later it was noticed that the Articles of Confederation would not be enough to keep the nation together. Congress did not have the power to tax or regulate…

Loyalty in a friendship is very important and sadly that's something Brutus doesn't have. Sure he might have been loyal to his country, but is that really an excuse to kill someone? He loved Caesar as a friend, but was so easily set back by Cassius. Who had obvious dislike for Caesar. “Yet I see thy honorable mettle may be wrought from that it is disposed”, was said by Cassius himself intended toward Brutus! Meaning his honorableness and loyalty to someone can be bent and persuaded so easily. Again Cassius says, “If I were Brutus now and he were Cassius, he should not humor me”. Clearly what Brutus did was wrong, even the so called “villain” believed so too.…

On the Ides of March, as Caesar was assassinated, Caesar's last line is: "Et tu, Brute?--Then fall, Caesar." (Act 3, Scene 1). This shows that Caesar would not die without Brutus' stab. Caesar realizes that there must be a noble reason for this assassination if Brutus was in it. This also shows how much Caesar respects Brutus and the decision he had made.…
