Purpose of the module:
The purpose of this module is to enable learners to acquire a basic knowledge of the principles and skills necessary to undertake book-based and electronic legal research, develop well-reasoned arguments, and to improve their legal writing skills.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the module learners are able: to explain their understanding of available book-based research resources in law and to demonstrate this by locating relevant materials; to describe their understanding of principles related to constructing a legal argument and to apply these in practice; to discuss their knowledge of concepts related to critical reasoning and to apply these to selected legal materials; to prepare and present oral argument, applying principles to assist in developing a coherent and well structured presentation; to demonstrate their acquisition of selected basic legal writing skills; to demonstrate computerized research skills, including Internet resources and the manipulation of various legal databases.
