“Biografie”

After watching the movie Catch Me If You Can, it was inevitable to me that the most important line in the movie was “I Am Frank William Abagnale Jr.” Frank Jr. was the main character and so it was important to know who he was throughout the whole movie. Frank Jr. was a young man who idealized his family, but mostly his father. He noticed things about his father and how he handled his business. Frank Sr. wasn’t always honest to his family and had ways in getting things he wanted. Sr. used his cunning ways to get ahead in life but once it caught up to him Jr. wanted to help his father and mother get back to where things was normal to them again. So being Frank William Abagnale Jr. was important to Jr. as it was to upholding the name for his father.…

Emiliano Zapata, born on August 8, 1879, in the village of Anenecuilco, Morelos (Mexico), Emiliano Zapata was of mestizo heritage and the son of a peasant medier, (a sharecropper or owner of a small plot of land). From the age of eighteen, after the death of his father, he had to support his mother and three sisters and managed to do so very successfully. The little farm prospered enough to allow Zapata to augment the already respectable status he had in his native village. In September of 1909, the residents of Anenecuilco elected Emiliano Zapata president of the village's "defense committee," an age-old group charged with defending the community's interests. In this position, it was Zapata's duty to represent his village's rights before the president-dictator of Mexico, Porfirio Díaz, and the governor of Morelos, Pablo Escandón. During the 1880s, Mexico had experienced a boom in sugar cane production, a development that led to the acquisition of more and more land by the hacienderos or plantation owners. Their plantations grew while whole villages disappeared and more and more medieros and other peasants lost their livelihoods or were forced to work on the haciendas. It was under these conditions that a plantation called El Hospital neighboring Zapata's village began encroaching more and more upon the small farmers' lands. This was the first conflict in which Emiliano Zapata established his reputation as a fighter and leader. He led various peaceful occupations and re-divisions of land, increasing his status and his fame to give him regional recognition.…

Social justice is the awareness that the world has entered on a phase of social existence with potential for the greater good. This is evident in the teachings of the Church because it is a virtue that inclines one to co-operate with others in order to help make the institution of society better serve the common good. While reading this short story about Belisa Crepusculario I could not help but to think of my godmother. The two of them are very much alike, besides the fact that one of them is a fictional fairytale character. Just like Belisa, my godmother’s words and stories have the ability to enchant and fascinate anybody, no matter what age. Therefor I strongly suspect that Isabel Allende was truly inspired by my godmother whilst writing this story or that some people just have the enchanting gift of storytelling, something I greatly envy.…

In the extremely sensitive topic of whether or not abortion is something that should be morally accepted or cast out of thought, there will always be opposing sides to the argument. Many people argue that variables such as rape, infection, and possible death of the mother should be considered for a fair and accurate argument but it all leads to the same question: is abortion right? Harriet McBryde Johnson was a woman that lived her life in a wheelchair but still believed that her life was just as important as everyone elses. On the other hand, Peter Singer is a man who believes that if a baby is born with a deformity or disability, the baby should be aborted to ensure the lives of the family are kept “normal.” Personally, abortion isn’t something that I believe in, but Peter Singer does do an impeccable job of proving his reasoning.…
