Luck plays a huge role in this novel because without luck Bilbo wouldn’t have survived many of the situations he got into. In my opinion, I think that Bilbo’s greatest weapon is luck and it proves very useful throughout his journey but it was not always good luck. Many of the situations that Bilbo and his friends got into would not have happened had it have not been for bad luck The first incident that I think was really impacted by luck, which in this case happened to be both bad and good luck was when Bilbo and his friends were captured by trolls and were almost eating. Luckily Gandlaf showed up just in time to save them. He did this by getting the trolls to argue long enough until the sun came up and turned them into stone. (Hobbit, P. # 40-41) Another incident that shows both good and bad luck was when Bilbo falls on the floor in the mountain caves that the goblins lived in and gets separated from the rest of his friends. Bilbo good luck keeps him from being discovered while he was unconscious and helps him find the ring that plays a big part of the rest of the story. (Hobbit, P. # 67-68) A time in the story that I think really show how lucky Biblo is was when Bilbo begs Gollum for more time to solve his riddle and without realizing it guesses the question right. (Hobbit, P. # 77-78) Bilbo luck also comes in handy when Gollum suspects Bilbo of stealing his ring and escapes by accidently putting the ring on, which makes him invisible, but doesn’t realize it until later. He follows Gollum as he goes through and heads towards the exit. (Hobbit, P. # 83-84)After escaping from the goblins Bilbo and his Friends run into wolves, which chase them up into trees. Then the goblins come and set the trees on fire, but fortunately for them they are saved by eagles. Eagles are good creature that don’t not like goblins, wolves, and other mischievous creatures. (Hobbit, P. # 106-107)
There are many unlucky things that happen while Bilbo and the
