Luck Meets Opportunity
"Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” Oprah Winfrey
Have you ever heard of being at the right place at the right time? Have you ever wondered why some people get their lucky break and why you don’t? I believe that luck does not just happen and that you must work hard at what you want to achieve. You must make the time and put in the effort to succeed. If you are lucky enough to meet the right person that notices your hard work and dedication they may just provide you the opportunity to help you reach the next level.
We learn this word “opportunity” early on even from the very first moments of our existence. We depend on our parents to teach us to walk. Our parents don’t just will us to walk though. We have to put in the effort. We have to fall, many times, before we can succeed. As luck would have it, our parents are there to help pick us up, stable us, and encourage us to continue to try. They give us the opportunity to become better at what we do. Once we are successful they reward us with praise and love and give us the opportunity to learn the next thing, like potty training, feeding ourselves, and learning to ride a bike.
As we go through life, we take these same learned behaviors and put them to use in our professional and personal lives. We learn that luck does not just happen. We have to make it happen. We have to work hard to achieve our goals in life. If we put in the effort then people take notice of our accomplishments and reward us with compliments, whether it be verbal, buying our products and services, or even investing in you to help continue the growth you have already demonstrated. Bottom line is that you have to prepare yourself, demonstrate your capabilities and when luck does stop by you will be prepared to

Luck has always been a word that can stir up a debate on whether or not it exists. Some people believe luck exists and there’s nothing you can do to change your failure or success. Yet there are others that believe the actions you partake in to reach many opportunities will determine success or failure. Personally I agree with the following notion by Oprah Winfrey that says “luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” My reasons for agreeing are because the actions you take will always determine your outcome and preparation is a great factor when faced with any and all opportunities.…

Diligence isn't just something you're born with you have to be industrious and working every day to reach that final stretch. Hopping and happening aren't the same thing and the difference between them is diligence. You can hope something will happen but if you ever want it to happen you have to have diligence. Luck is something that almost everyone experiences. To experience it more, however, one must work harder. According to the online dictionary, luck is a combination of circumstances, events, etc, operating by chance to bring good or ill to a person. Abraham Lincoln once said “The harder I work, the luckier I get.” There is a lot of truth in his statement. The better one prepares oneself for a task, the more likely luck will grace him. For example, in the most recent Summer Olympic Games, there were two races when Michael Phelps, known for the seven gold medals he collected in swimming, won by a total of nine hundredths of a second ' one race by just a hundredth. Some critics call it luck. Others even call it divine intervention. Logically speaking, it was the result of all the hard work he put into his preparation. His performance was not just a fruit of his hard work, but also a fruit of the environment in which he trained in. True, he is a very talented swimmer, but his skill was honed also because the environment where he trained. The training environment he and his teammates had was a luxury not available to most of his opponents. It is also a benefit of the economic success of his country.…

Every goal we list isn't just a dream, we will sacrifice everything in order to achieve it, and every obstacle we overcome, strengths our expectations in succeeding. Through every step, we question our luck, some of us fail and when they do, the only excuse they give is "bad luck". In my opinion, luck does exist but it won't play a huge roll in us if we worked hard enough.…

“Luck,” by Mark Twain, you are either born with it or born without it; this short story gives insight on how your most idolized idols are just normal, everyday people, how your preconceived opinions of people can make you seem like an awful person, and how your own incompetence can be beneficial to those around you. Again, your favorite celebrity, whomever it may be, is not some demigod or king but rather a person who has come to achieve things that people in your inner circle have not achieved. The beginning narrator states, about Arthur Scoresby while at a banquet honoring him, “It was food and drink to me to look, and look, and look at that demigod; scanning, searching, noting: the quietness, the reserve, the noble gravity of his countenance; the simple honesty that expressed itself all over him; the sweet…

To serve, as it does, to convince those with lack of motivation, or perhaps imagination, to remain stagnant with the hope that chance will smile upon them, the concept of luck is a farce. This is a truism that successful people understand. In fact, most successful people will state this truth almost as a proverb. For example, Oprah Winfrey has been quoted as saying, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity.” Oprah Winfrey has the innate understanding that luck isn’t really luck at all. In fact, luck is the culmination of hard work.…

I for one find myself disagreeing with Mr. Milton. As opposed to how it was hundreds of years ago, luck is a different concept in today’s time. Today, luck is a concept that can only be applied to the top one percent also known as the wealthiest people of America. People in the middle and working classes all work for the opportunities that they are given; luck has no determination on who gets what. In my personal experience, my family has had to work for everything that we own, and we have never seen “luck” in effect. I fully understand what Mr. Milton was trying to say, and he is not wrong entirely. Milton believed that when a plan is designed well enough luck comes out of the planning, and everything falls into place. However, not everything will fall perfectly into place every time. Things will fall through and fail, and you have no choice but to pick yourself back up and keep pushing through the obstacles. I have observed over the past couple of years that people have become too dependent on luck for results instead of working for them. This is a similar situation that my current classmates and I are going through currently. Too many of my classmates will depend on luck and chance to get them the same opportunities as someone with a college degree, despite not going to get one themselves. This is why I will get a Bachelor’s degree and…

In my adult life I have decided to further my education and prepare myself to be a better nurse as well as a better role model to my children. While completing nursing school I made the difficult choice to continue full time employment in the medical field while raising three small children. While my road to RN was a challenging one, when I completed my goal I was able to instantly transfer into the position of telemetry nurse at the local hospital. At the same time, over 70% of my class was not able to find employment for over a year. How was it that I was able to achieve my goal so quickly? Was it luck? Yes, if luck is defined as Oprah has stated it to be. Perhaps it was lucky that there was a position open at just the right time. Perhaps it was luck that I worked with nursing preceptors during my schooling who were willing to put in a good work for me. I do believe, though, that without my hard work and preparation, my perceived good luck may not have developed into my success.…

Fortune favours the brave. It's a well known proverb but what exactly does it mean? .in simple terms, that good luck comes to those who take chances. There are many people in life who complain that they can't attain success in life because fate has conspired against them. This is simply not true. History has shown us that the truth is fortune favours those with courage and an adventurous spirit. Those that are prepared to take risks but not be reckless. This requires positive thought but also the ability to put things into perspective. When fear can be analysed then it can be overcome. It often takes courage to admit you are wrong or could be doing something better. Once this hurdle is cleared though, you can begin on the path to success. Continuing to act boldly and without fear of failure is your key to reaching that…
