Luckovic Analysis
In this cartoon Luckovic shows how President Barrack Obama holds only one piece of candy only for a huge crowd of kids outside of his house. In this case the piece of candy is catalogued as a job opportunity. All the kids appear to have a worried face, doubting that they will get something for this Halloween night. On the other hand, president Obama looks like he is frustrated and not satisfied by only having this one piece of candy for all the disappointed kids. It is also good to mention that all the kids have their candy bag open as if they are expecting to receive something even though there is only one piece of candy, even though it appears that only one kid is going to be fortunate enough to receive a treat that occasion.

In American politics, political candidates use election promises all the time in order to gain votes and get into office. However, some candidates never have the intention of fulfilling these promises and abandon them once in office. In the article, “Obama Finally Fulfills Campaign Promise To Spend One Night In Abandoned Amusement Park” published by The Onion, it states that President Obama promised that he would spend a night in the Cedar Plains Family Fun amusement park for an entire night when he was only a presidential candidate. The article uses phony quotes from President Obama and other respectable individuals, deadpan sarcasm, and imagery to satirize presidential candidates, their promises to America, and American voting habits.…

Without a doubt, Oleg Ivanovich Zaitzev is taking a massive risk by deciding to defect to the United States; a crime for which the KGB, if they are feeling unusually forgiving, will very publicly demote, shame, and shun (in that order) the traitorous mongrel. In retrospect, I believe that what he chose was inevitable and morally right. Explicitly, there are many reasons for which Zaitzev must have chosen to defect, for there are definitely many reasons which prevented most of his countrymen from doing likewise. The list of reasons for which Zaitzev defects to the United States is a comprehensive and powerful one. One such reason is the known brutality of the KGB. For example, Oleg Ivan’ch has heard of a tale in which the KGB loaded a defector…

    Sympathy for Candy

You also feel sorry for him as he has had a terrible accident and has had his hand cut off “i aint much good with only one hand” this also creates sympathy as he himself is acknowledging that he isn’t of much use. It could also mean that no one around the ranch cares about his accident. This is sad as he was once a useful and now he is isolated from the rest because all the others are fit and healthy and he is crippled. He has low hopes until Lennie and George tell him about their plan.” 'Cause i ain't got no relatives nor nothing” this is another quote to make you sympathise for candy as it states that he has no family to leave money for so he can give the money to them to fulfil the “American dream” of George and Lennie. This is sad knowing what candy has been through and what he thinks of himself. Furthermore, another language device Steinbeck uses in the passage to present candy is adjectives. There are a variety of them used such as "reassures" and "safe" in order to describe candy's feelings. The fact that candy feels "safe"…

As Candy says, “I oughta shot that dog myself…” (p61) shows that he feels guilty when other people do what he knows he should do, and this is just one example. Earlier in the story Candy talks about how the blacksmith and how he just quit on day saying that it was the food and that he needed time and space. (p19) This shows that migrant workers where very lonely and used excuses to quit a job even though they needed the money, but Candy has stayed because he knows that if he quits and tries to find a different job, he won’t and he’ll end up dying alone.…

Once upon a horrible time, the United States was a segregated country in which blacks were considered some sort of subspecies. Although the civil war addressed segregation it didn’t enforce it. While black and white citizens were becoming a group of equals in the north, the story was much different in the segregated south. Black citizens in the south still faced unequal treatment, wages, and were often persecuted by everyone from store workers to judges. It was time for change and some great people would rise up and unite all citizens to stop the crimes in the south.…
