Lucy
Lucy is a 2014 French science fiction action film with actors Scarlett Johnson and Morgan Freeman.
The film Lucy uses a lot of different story sequence examples. The story is told as a speech from a professor who studies the drug she took. He lectures students about the different stages the drugs have on a human that she is experiencing. The story is told in the 3rd person and in a linear form as he describes the stages chronologically. Flashbacks to and from the speech and Lucy are used and for shadowing is used on Lucy as soon as she consumes the drug.
The setting of the film varies but as it is an action film there are a lot of violent and gruesome scenes so the main colour is red. The colour scheme of red for blood provides a back drop to the genre. The most used setting technique is pathetic fallacy; this is when the weather or setting reflects the characters feelings or mood. When Lucy was locked away, the room was dark and grey, she felt lonely and as if she was abandoned.
Sound was used the most in this film especially diegetic sounds. These sounds are from the speech from professor Norman that explains the story whilst Lucy is experiencing it. As soon as the drug bag leaks in her body, there is silence and all you can here is here heavy breathing and heart beat. This is a amplified or magnified sound that occurs when the character is in shock or scared. Most of the sounds come from the dialogue between Mr. Jang and Lucy and other characters like the professor.
As the mentioned in the settings, the main colour for the whole film is both red and back. This colours symbolizes the dull and gruesome atmosphere throughout the film. Mr. Juang’s bodyguards use uniformity to convey a very strict and tough men and is used to identify characters.
The most effective camera composition is when the camera is Lucy’s eyes which lets the audience see their perspective. They use close-up zoom to show detail when Lucy was beginning the
