Lunch Counter Murder Case Report

Address of Occurrence: Ernie’s Lunchroom

A prominent racketeer named Fannin, was found dead due to a shot wound inside Ernie’s Lunchroom on Thursday afternoon. The body was laying facing down near the stools at the bar. The lunchroom’s owner and only employee, Ernie, stated that, “the murderer had leaned against the wall while firing at point-blank range.”
Upon arrival to the scene, we found various pieces of evidence which led us to discover the identity of the murderer. Fannin’s body was laying face down outside the counter where, about 3/4 of the floor, was covered in water. There were three different sets of footprint found at the crime scene, and mop leaned against the wall by the bucket of water after having recently mopped the floor. The cash register was rung up at $8.75 and was still open. There were four meals on the counter in front of the four bar stools, and there was a right hand print between the mop and the water bucket and the front window.
There were four people in the lunchroom, labeled customers A, B, C, and, D. Costumers B, C, and D’s checks added up to $8.75, which was the las amount rung up in the cash register. This would conclude that these three costumers knew each other and payed together. Customers B, C, and D’s plates were almost empty, as if they had finished with their meal, while customer A had a full plate as if he did not eat. Customer A also didn’t have a napkin and his check was still by his plate. Customers B, and D’s silverware were on the right hand side, while customer C’s was on the left hand side. This would conclude that customer C is left handed while customers B, and D are right handed.
Footprints Y and Z most likely belong Ernie, the owner, since the footprints were directed into the kitchen, or to the cash register. Being this the case, then Ernie would have been the only one going to such places as the only employee. Footprints X direct to the wall, which would indicate that these are the murderer’s footprints.
Based on the evidence found at the crime scene, it is rather likely that customer C was the murderer. Footprints X, were directed from the direction in which customer B, C, and D were seated at. Also, customer C was the only person who was left handed, from which we can conclude that customer C leaned against the wall with the right hand and shot with the dominant left hand.
