INTRODUCTION
Architecture shapes generations, their living conditions and their future. The decisions that an architect makes, decides the kind of lives that the people living in his building will lead. This job is no less than a god’s task. About an hundred years ago, this job was given to a phenomenal architect, Edwin Landseer Lutyens. The job was to build an Anglo-Indian Rome right in the heart of India.
A HISTORY
Delhi has become a classic example of evolution, appreciated by architectural enthusiasts all over the world. This city has been built, rebuilt and improvised by a number of emperors, viz. the mythological pandavas (indraprastha), Mauryan King Dillu (Dilli), Shahjahan (Shahjahanabad), Ferozshah Tughlaq (tughlaqabad), Allaudin Khilji (Siri) and many more. This cultural collage of a city was given to Edwin Lutyens to paint in the colour of the British Empire, to build a capital grander than Rome itself. Lutyens’ Delhi is still compared with capitals like Washington, and Canberra.
The task that we aim to accomplish with this report is to aptly compare and analyse the architectural thoroughness and efficiency of
