Thesis statement: Evading trouble, enhancing reputation and mental disorders are the reasons people lie.
Introduction
People have differing opinions about truthfulness and honesty. Some say one should
always be honest and truthful, but others believe it can be okay to not tell the whole
truth or be a bit dishonest in certain situations under any circumstances.
Merely recognizing the basis for lying brings no one closer to deciding whether
under appropriate or particular conditions a lie is not justified, it is preferred .

is nothing wrong with a small white lie. Lying means a false
statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth. Evading
trouble, enhancing reputation and mental disorder are reasons people lie.
Without a doubt lying is caused by trying to evade trouble. Getting into trouble is a situation that
everyone tries to avoid.
People try to avoid getting in trouble with the authority. People lie everyday to, in some way or the other keep themselves out of
trouble. Many kids will lie to their parents about what they doing, what they are
watching on television or how the computer got broken while they were away .
In relationships people lie to their significant others so as not to get in trouble
about the affair they are having. So it is clear that lying often starts with wrong
doings, for whatever reason we do something that others disapprove. Without any
doubt lying is caused by evading punishment.
Lying is clearly cause by enhancing reputation; lying to impress others. More
commonly, teenagers lie to make themselves look cool or to make others think they
are cool. It is also common in adults as well , where they make themselves seem
greater than what they actual are. Most people care about what people think of them
so they lie to fit in. Others enhance their reputation by lying to present a good image
in front of others. This is because when they get caught not doing their part they lie.
For example when your boss asked if you finished the assignment given to you,
you
lie instead of telling the truth that you have not even started. The need to always get
the commendation of others impels him to present in the most adorable way. Also
making their abilities seem more impressive than it is, searching for special
treatment. So it is clear that lying is caused by trying to enhance one’s reputation.
Lying is caused by a mental disorder, which causes a person to be utterly sincere
about their lies, but if confronted with facts to the contrary will just reserve their
story. Dr. King said, “their stories have believable consistency but they are able to
monitor whether they are able to monitor the truth or not”. This extreme form of lying is linked with a specific neurological pattern . This is a minor memory deficit combined with impairment in the frontal lobes . This part of the brain evaluates information. Dr. King said, “In such cases like the persons suffers from the inability to access the accuracy of what he says, and so can tell lies as though they were true.” So it is clear that cause of lying is due to a mental disorder.
Lying has nothing to do with mental disorder , according to the Mental Act 1983 , mental disorder is a, mental illness , arrested or incomplete development of mind, psychopathic disorder , disability of the mind. Which is not cause by lying in away possible, in fact it is totally the opposite. Psychologists who are studying how and why children learn to are finding that lies play positive roles in a child’s emotional development. Researchers see a child’s first successful lie, as a positive milestone in mental growth. “ Lying is as much a part of normal growth and development as telling the truth,” said Arnold Goldberg, a professor of psychiatry at Rush Medical
College in Chicago. The ability to lie is a human achievement one of those abilities that set apart from all other species.
In conclusion lying is all around us, it never stops whether it is black or a white, it is around . It can be beneficial at the time or worst at the end. Either way somebody is going to get hurt. So always tell the truth the first time and if you need help ask for it. .
