Castle Walls Lyrical Interpretation

Is being famous all that it is made out to be? This is a question most people overlook. You hear about the money, the big mansions, fancy cars and private jets but do you ever wonder at what price, as a human being, they pay? The song “Castle Walls” by T.I and Christina Aguilera describe some of the difficulties they face, how money is not everything and even being famous comes with a hefty price.

In the third stanza of the song the lyrics clearly express that what being famous is like from the outside is not what the reality is like on the inside and I quote “Observing the estate through the gate; from the outside looking in; bet you would think I got it made; better look again.” The fourth stanza, “I got a butler, a maid, and a mansion; the belief is that I’m living out a millionaires fantasy; with Phantoms and Ferraris in the driveway; but you see, it came in exchange of a man’s sanity” expresses that money and fame carries many burdens including mental ones. This is also expressed in the lines, “Apparently it’s damaging the man you see before you” and “Your vision jaded by the Grammies on the mantelpiece; just switch your camera lenses; you would see the agony” also reiterate this concept.

I feel the imagery used in the following lines draw the listener in and make them feel the conflict that the singer deals with as a person, “I guess I’m saying that to say the opportunity; that they just don’t equate to all the time they take away; from the kids all the s..t I did right’s a mistake; if they

The song starts out with a strang questioning of reality: “Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, No escape from reality, Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see”. They first two lines are rhetorical questions. They help establish the state of mind needed in order to continue with the song. The third line is a metaphor. It means everything is crashing down on him, and he cannot escape it. It seems to conclude that he is caught between a dream and awakening. The next couple set of lines are being used as transitions into the main part of stanza one, “I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy, Because I’m easy come, easy go, Little high, little low, Any way the wind blows, Doesn’t really matter to me, to me”. In the third and fourth line repetition is used in order to keep the lyrics flowing. The boy thinks his life doesn’t matter to anyone, his life is meaningless and the Earth does not care what happens to him. He does not care what happens next, he just wants it over; “any way the wind blows” him, he will go and it “doesn’t really matter” to him anymore. The next three lines show intent to kill by the boy, “Mama, just killed a man, Put a gun against his head, Pulled my trigger, now he’s dead”. The boy has finally come to terms of what he has…

In Emily Dickinson's poem "I Felt a Funeral in My Brain", Dickinson describes what seems to be a funeral in her mind. When one thinks of a funeral, they usually think of a ceremony for a person who has died. This funeral that Dickinson is experiencing in her brain, is actually a funeral for the death of her mind. Emily Dickinson describes events that usually take place at a funeral but the ideas she pitches to the reader doesn't exactly exemplify your ideal funeral. She tells the reader how there are mourners, a service, lifting of a box implying it is a coffin and nobody is being burried. In Emily Dickenson's poem, the reader can elaborate upon elements of poetry such as imagery, symbolism, diction, and metaphor that create a better sense of understanding.…

The song, Make Your Beginning, You Who Sing, which is a song of the Aztec nobility spoke to me muck like many works of lyric I listen to today. One for example is called, Can’t Complain by a band called Relent K. Each have the same basic message, which is do not worry about wordily things, just life life to the fullest because we do not live long. The song, Can’t Complain, focusses more on bad situations and telling the listeners how this person coped with the situation. Such as in the first few lines, “Looking at the cop in the rear view mirror. Probably should have stopped but the crosswalk was clear. I’ll just imagine it's a ticket to a Broadway show.” This show how the writer flipped a terrible situation into an optimistic view. Looking…

The concept of Celebrity and Fame are ones that affect relationships both positively and negatively. Fame refers to the state of being known by many people, and Celebrity is the noun for a famous person. The experiences and perspectives of celebrities who have gone through the process of Fame have all had their relationships affected by their status both positively and negatively - whether it is a celebrity's relationship with corporations, the concept of Fame or their peers and rivals. This statement is supported by Brian Caswell's novel _Asturias,_ Jay Z and Justin Timberlake's song _Holy Grail,_ and Donna Rockwell's article _'Fame is a Dangerous Drug: a phenomenal glimpse of celebrity"_ all showcase these arguments with textual evidence. In brief, textual evidence have been provided to establish the implications Fame present on a celebrity's relationships.…

The song begins with a dreamy description of a “desolate” land to the west. Natalie Merchant’s description comes across as sarcastic, implying that this beautiful land that families or individuals could travel to and receive a free share of was only the surface of the horrible circumstances of a more gruesome reality. Eric Foner’s description of the term “Gilded,” seems to apply to this sentiment. Foner explained the term as, “covered with a layer of golf, but it also suggests that the glittering surface covers a core of little real value and is therefore deceptive.” (616-617). Westward Expansion gave people hope of achieving economic success in new places, but did not prepare these people for the hardships that would involve their families or the Native-Americans who already occupied the land.…

The obvious cynicism toward Hollywood is explained undoubtedly in during the course of the song. With lines such as “and it’s the stars that lie to you...” (Corey Taylor) and “epidemic of the mannequins, contaminating everything”(Corey Taylor) is an direct reference to the plastic nature of the world that celebrities live in and the falseness of their looks and the unrealistic goals that influences the thoughts and goals of anyone who looks up toward these stars. The contamination of this epidemic had a direct impact in the time contemporary to when the song was written because Taylor was going through a time in his artistic life with his experiment with Stone Sour where he was looking in to himself for inspiration and away from the ties of mainstream media and influence that he believed was even a part of his band Slipknot.…

We use symbols to define our relationships in society. These symbols affect the way we interact with others. The example the book gives is that you treat your brother and husband different based on their titles. If a woman is dating a man for a long time and the night before her wedding, her mother informed her years ago she had given a baby up for adoption, and that baby was her fiancé. That changes the logistics of the relationship, simply because he is now her brother. In relationship to the song, society treats a rich man different from a poor one. A teen mom has a stigma to her that she may be a “slut”. The drug dealer is labeled a bad person, a criminal, with no interest in his other characteristics, such as being a father, and…

Many songs in today's entertainment industry can relate to people's lives, whether from experiences or just thoughts. “No one knows what it's like to be the bad man, to be the sad man, behind blue eyes” is a great line that relates to today's society from the song, “Behind Blue Eyes” by The Who. This line demonstrates how people can be so ignorant and close-minded because many people think that whatever it is that's happening to them, is only and has only happened to them and nobody else. For example, someone may have money problems and try to hide it but little do they know that their best friend may even be struggling with the same problem, as well.…
