Lyrics
"Just Give Me A Reason"
(feat. Nate Ruess)

Right from the start
You were a thief
You stole my heart
And I your willing victim
I let you see the parts of me
That weren't all that pretty
And with every touch you fixed them

Now you've been talking in your sleep, oh, oh
Things you never say to me, oh, oh
Tell me that you've had enough
Of our love, our love

Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
It's in the stars
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
We're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again

I'm sorry I don't understand
Where all of this is coming from
I thought that we were fine
(Oh, we had everything)
Your head is running wild again
My dear we still have everythin'
And it's all in your mind
(Yeah, but this is happenin')

You've been havin' real bad dreams, oh, oh
You still lie so close to me, oh, oh
There's nothing more than empty sheets
Between our love, our love
Oh, our love, our love

Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
I never stopped
You're still written in the scars on my heart
You're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again

Our tear ducts can rust
I'll fix it for us
We're collecting dust
But our love's enough
You're holding it in
You're pouring a drink
No nothing is as bad as it seems
We'll come clean

Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
It's in the stars
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
That we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again

Just give me a reason
Just a little bit's enough
Just a second we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love again
It's in the stars
It's been written in the scars on our hearts
That we're not broken just bent
And we can learn to love

I enjoy listening to this song anyways as it is in my native language and one of my top childhood songs. The song is about a couple who is in love with each other but when the guy has to leave for the US, they broke up. He later returns and the love is still there. This is a very cute story and I love singing the lyrics that describes his feelings for her as he was away. If I broke up and get back together with my boyfriend, I would want this to be our scenario, that we broke up and got back together because of distance or circumstances, not because we wanted this. I also love how there are english lyrics sung with deep emotion in the song: “I will be back for you.” The music video for the song is also very heartwarming and brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it. If I got back together with my ex, I could listen to this song to remind me of my feelings for him. This song is a great song that evokes strong emotions from me and makes me think about love and how strong it is to overcome lots.…

    Catcher in the Rye Song

After looking at quite a few songs and their lyrics, I found that the song “Yesterday” by the Beatles represented well a few of Holden’s situations on The Catcher in the Rye. The song expresses the emotions Holden feels for Jane. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden remembers the relationship he once had with Jane and how it was so simple, and how happiness came so easily when he was with her. Like on page 79 of the novel, Holden says, "You never even worried with Jane... All you knew was, you were happy” The lyrics in the song also say "Yesterday, love was such an easy game to play." It was so easy for Holden before, but now he struggles to enjoy relationships with girls and he misses the past when love was only about being happy. The thought of Jane dating someone else drives him crazy, so when he finds out that Stradlater was out with Jane, and that they were in Ed Bankey’s car together, he runs away from school alone. The line "Now I need a place to hide away" in the song represents that situation pretty well. After Holden realizes that all the happy times he had with Jane are in the past and always will be, he gets really sad and wants to hide from the world, and he hopes to hold on to his memory of "yesterday." I believe that the song "Yesterday" represents really well Holden's feelings for the past when Jane and him were together.…

Tim O’Brien is a person who cannot seem to accomplish things that he really wants to do. The novel The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien is about the author himself. He is intelligent and thoughtful yet it is difficult for him to move forward towards what he actually wants. The song “Stop and Stare” by One Republic relates to O’Brien greatly with his personality and thoughts in more ways than one. “Stop and Stare” expresses a tone of emptiness, regret, sorrow, nostalgia, fear, and darkness. The story behind it is someone trying hard, trying to be the best, and hopefully getting to where they want to be, not backing down because of what others think.…

    Song Representation

The song I chose to represent Creon is Pray by Sunny Hill. The song pray fits Creon because in several lines of lyrics fit regret and guilt of what Creon had done. A couple of the lines from the song related to Creon asking for Tiresias help but then not liking the answer, for example "Someone told me to pray to dream, that it will come true no matter what it is. Tell me everything- look at me and tell me, tell me to please stop." Inside Creon knew Tiresias was right telling him that punishing Antigone was the wrong thing to do, but Creon was to late to stop and realize his mistakes. Just like in the lyrics, Creon wants to know the prediction but also does not want to know in case he made a mistake. Other lyrics in this song represent Creon at the end of the play. "The sighs sound cruel and harsh. but I can't hear anything- no sound of salvation, I pray and I cry out for someone to save me. It gets worse and worse the more I grieve for you, cry for me and I'm sorry." These lyrics represent Creon after both his wife and son kill themselves. They describe how guilty and heartbroken he is about their deaths and how it will only get worse with time.…

    Song Symbolism Essay

The song “Firework” by: Katy Perry has a lot of symbolism. With her beautiful voice, and to her amazing lyrics, people can really relate to what she is saying. From her lyrics in “Firework” I was able to pull out three lyrics that I think have the most symbolism. “Do you ever feel like a plastic bag, drifting through the wind wanting to start again?”, “Cause baby you’re a firework, come and let your colors burst”, and “You don’t have to feel like a wasted space, you’re original, cannot be replaced” are the three lyrics that stood out to me the most with the most symbolism.…

When asked to write an essay about a song of significance to me, I thought to myself, “This is going to be an easy grade”. But because of my love for music of all kinds, I found that the choice of which song to write about was even harder than I imagined. After a few days of contemplation and battling with what I felt would be most appropriate for my English professor to read, I decided to write about a song called “Making Memories of Us” by Keith Urban. I fell in love with this song for its beautiful, smooth melody and genuine words. I had no idea this song would make a permanent impression in my life.…
