M1: Assess the impact of key influences on the personal learning process on own learning -
There are several factors that have and still do influence on my own individual learning process. However some have impacted greater than others and they are as followed:
• Learning Style
• Motivation
• Attitude and Self Discipline
• Aspirations
• Previous educational experience
It’s important for me to identify my ‘Learning Style’ because it maximises my own personal learning; Honey and Mumford states ‘’each learner ought to understand their learning style and seek out opportunities to learn using that style’’ to do this. I’d say I’m very particular about the way I go about learning and I am not entirely open-minded in my approach to learning. I would say I am ‘’ Theorist’’ because as it states ‘’these learners like to understand the theory behind the actions’’ and I am very much like this in a sense I’m not happy to settle for the facts; I like to know why something’s the way it is and come to a logical reasoning for most things.
Motivation is what plays a huge part in my learning process. I’ve been in a position all too many times where I’ve struggled immensely because my motivation was almost non-existent. This was mainly as a result of my lack of self-motivation. I overcome this by Identifying a way I like to learn best that made me feel at ease and able to get on with things. ‘’ The acronym VARK stands for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinaesthetic sensory modalities that are used for learning information’’ I discovered I learnt best by Auditory. My reasons for this being is that I feel I excel when lectured and partake in group discussions and when using mobile phones, speaking, web-chat and talking things through. Another thing that plays a large part in my motivation is listening to music whilst doing independent studying.
My attitude changes regularly and I find it difficult to maintain a positive attitude towards my learning. I think it’s important to

There are many factors that can have an influence on my learning. One of them is my friends. My friends can influence my learning by distracting me during lessons and also by helping me to catch up on work. In some ways, friends can motivate me because they encourage me to do my work and to get my assignments done on time. They also motivate me because they assist me with my work when I need it instead of waiting to ask a tutor which cannot be done as easily; I can easily call a friend. Friends have a positive influence on me because they are aware of the things that I am doing so that they know what I should be working on, mainly because my friends are all doing the same course as me. A negative affect that they have on my learning is sometimes we spend a whole lesson going off topic and talking about what happened on our weekends which is something that can be discussed on the lunch breaks rather than the all important lessons.…

My personal learning does not only have an impact on me but on the others around me as well, my family, friends, and staff at my placement are an example of people that is affect my personal learning and development. I have the capability to assist others by using knowledge and skills that I have obtained by learning and by own experiences. I believe that by sharing this knowledge and skills I can benefit others and I also believe that I can share my own experiences with others, for example if I have been through a bad experience I can advice others and help them gain knowledge about it and if they go through the same experience that I did they would not need to have to go through the bad time that I did.…

By recognising which group of learning style you belong to can benefit your personal development in many ways. I found out that I am auditory learner, rather than a visual or kinaesthetic learner. This means that I prefer and will work more efficiently through instructions and orders by my teachers or peers. It also means that I am quite able to remain focussed and attentive whilst I am being told what to do. Throughout this project, the fact that I was aware of my learning style improved my contribution and performance to the group. Whilst working in my group, I had to improve my confidence and communication skills. Because of my preference in auditory learning,…

In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some…

My personal learning style is doing. I learn best from the hands on approach of getting in to a topic or job and attempting to complete it on my own. This allows me to see my mistakes and not have them be prevented before they happen, which allows me to note the problem and fix it. I find it much harder to learn using concrete experience and reflective observation. The fact that both these styles are much harder for me to learn from effects my overall learning style because of how I learn, just watching someone else complete a task is not enough for me to learn by.…

My family and the goals that I want to achieve in my life are what motivate me to learn and take part in activities that help me towards my goals. Beginning my Master program is the leading thing that changed my thinking towards learning and learning methods. I consider myself to fit within the Aslanian and Brickell (1980) study that focused on life transitions as motivators for seeking out learning experiences. (MCB p. 62) I realized that in the past, going to college was something that changed my life and my thinking about “learning” and that has had an impact on my learning in the present and my career in the future. Career and family transitions, matching 56 percent of the learners within the sample, were also big reasons for me to return to school. Focused Learning activities involving content, critical thinking and reflection support my learning development. I consider myself to be a visual, verbal, and logical and a solitary learner and the use of these focus learned activities help me retain the information. Assigned readings, flashcards and PowerPoints help me with my learning which channel the content activities. Constant logical researching, responses to assignments and self-study and reflection on the learning are also things that help me when I learn. I learn both within a formal setting and also online learning. I enjoy having the structure that comes…

The aim of this section is to deliberate the characteristics of Problem Based Learning (PBL) from various literature. Problem-based learning (PBL) is an emerging teaching approach which has taken its prominence in tertiary education in recent years. PBL is an instructional strategy in which learner-centered method is adopted and students learn by working on real life problems and activities, where teacher acts as a facilitator (Barrows,H & Tamblyn, R.M, 1980). It is a style of learning in which the problems act as the driving force for student directed learning(Boud & Feletti, 1997). All learning of new knowledge is done within the context of the problems. In PBL the problems are encountered before all the relevant knowledge has been acquired and solving problems results in the acquisition of knowledge and problem-solving skills.…
