these students attending the 169 schools in Memphis. Approximately one third of the children are living
below the poverty level. A high crime rate, poor health care, low standardized test scores,
incarceration, and gang involvement are commonplace among these economically challenged children.
At this point in time, Shelby County public schools are battling the Achievement School System (ASD)
and Green Dot charter schools for funds. Several SCS schools are I-Zone schools. I-Zone schools are
those with extended day hours. I-Zone schools have better standardized test results than ASD schools.

Our safety officers enforce local
and state laws, following the SCS Safety Division Policy and Procedure Guidelines. Our officers receive
more specialized training than any local authorities. This annual training includes methods of non-lethal
engagement with students, pressure point techniques, empathy training, sensitivity training, crisis
training, and use of appropriate communication.
There are several reasons that I want to obtain a MBA from Bethel University. Since I work in an
educational environment, there are a number of employees and co-workers who hold advanced
degrees. A MBA degree is preferred or required for most upper management positions.
Also, I think that a business approach would be a better way to resolve situations involving SCS students.
Applying knowledge from these courses would make a real difference. Below, I have included just a few
examples of courses included in the MBA program at Bethel that I know will be beneficial to me as I
continue my work at SCS.
