Thank you, in advance.
For this reason there was a corporate performance improvement team from Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) that evaluated and helped start initiatives in order to improve the patient throughput process at OU Medical Center. At the start of my internship, I worked directly with the corporate throughput team in their data analysis and planning stage of the engagement. This section includes the projects and meetings I worked on related to patient throughput. To start, data was pulled from the electronic medical record by a senior analyst in IT&S. Based on review of the data specific to each department identified as a need; then we proceeded with operational recommendations and implementation. Below are specific aspects to the patient throughput engagement and how they relate to the learning experience of the internship. A summary of throughput in its entirety was identified as a deliverable as part of the work plan and can be found in Appendix…

The final section of my Philadelphia University portfolio represents the specialized skills and knowledge that I have gained during my time here as a student. When I began my journey at Philadelphia University in Health Service management I was unaware of the major problems that impacted the healthcare field and my goals first were to apply for the states Administrator-In-Training program after graduation. Thereafter I wanted to complete the Administrator-In-Training program hours at my current job Elkins Crest Nursing Home. In the final analysis, I hoped to become an Administrator or an Assistant Administrator for Extendicare Health Services within the next two years. Working at Pennsylvania Hospital has altered my views slightly. I would like to stay within the Pennsylvania Hospital network and be an administrator.…

Lessons I have learned from this interview with Ronald G. Spaeth, as a graduate student in healthcare administration by reading about Mr. Spaeth’s education, awards and career accomplishments. For instance, Spaeth received a Gold Medal Award for his outstanding contributions as a leader in healthcare. I have learned that receiving a great award can start a successful career. Though, receiving an award is a part of career success. Completing an earned degree in business administration, and/or another Master’s degree is another great start for a professional successful career. Mr. Speath’s career goals were met by his educational background and work experience. I have learned that career success takes effectively working with students, leaders…

Upon completion of my undergraduate work, I will be pursuing a Masters of Business Administration, with a focus of healthcare administration. After the completion of my first year of graduate work, I intend to apply for a work-study position as a “Health Systems Specialist”, at the local VA facility. These work-studies are paid internships in which the department of veteran’s affairs trains and evaluates the competencies of prospective employees. Upon completion of the one-year work-study, I will be eligible for a non-competitive conversion to a permanent or term appointment within the VA health care system (U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, n.d.).…

I have 5 years of experience in the military as a department head of dental clinics as well as 6 years of experience of being a multi-location manager for Circuit City. My work experience and education have helped me to develop excellent organizational and communication skills with patients, physicians, and the medical community. I am also acquainted with the local medical community. I performed an internship at the Church Health Center and worked as an eligibility clerk at the V.A. Hospital. I also have been selected for the Memphis Institute of Leadership Excellence Program at the University of Memphis. My mentor is David Hogan the Executive Vice President of Baptist Memorial Healthcare. I have learned much about the field of Healthcare Administration from him. I especially enjoy learning about the ways that David uses his communication skills to and abilities to impact his organization as…
Our health workforce was described as dysfunctional in public and private health workforce policy and infrastructure putting the health of Americans at risk. Could it be the lack of integrated education and teamwork from those that are involved in the care of our patients? Health care professionals are educated in differing schools of thought. If there were overlapping curricula and raining requirements integrating their training there would be both advantages and disadvantages involved.…

The RD that mentored me was Rochelle Werner and she works in the WIC and medical department at the San Benito Health Foundation in Hollister. We communicated through emails and through a phone call. She told me that her job entails providing individual counseling for pregnant/postpartum women, infants, children 0-5 years old, and adults with chronic conditions like obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol, and diabetes. She added that she also works on various quality assurance and management projects for the clinic. My mentor told me that when applying for an internship, I should look into the details of the internship and what the internship offers in order to find out if the internship is right for me. I learned that I don’t necessarily have…
