INTRODUCTION
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common causes of dementia, responsible for 60-80% of all dementias 2, 7. The prevalence is strongly linked to age, with >1% of 60-64-year-old patients being diagnosed with the condition, compared to 20-40% of those over 85-90 years of age 2. It is multifaceted disease which results in progressive cognitive decline that ultimately leads to dementia. Amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles are considered as diagnostic tools for this disease. AD is characterized by an insidious onset and inexorable progression of atrophy that is the first manifestation in the medial temporal lobe (Scahill et al 2002).
