According to the Center for Disease control and Prevention (CDC), the economic burden of mental illness in the United States (U.S) is substantial. The cost for mental health care in 2002 was $300 billion and is on the rise (CDC, 2011). Mental illness is an important public health problem experienced by adults and children. Approximately 80 million American suffer from some form of mental illness.
