Conflict is a struggle between opposing forces that moves a plot forward. The Tragedy of Macbeth has many conflicts. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth is part of an external conflict. The example of the extexternal conflict is the quote “Are you a man? This is the air drawn dagger which you said led you to Duncan”. (pg. 347 line 59) This means he was having second doubts about killing King Duncan, so Lady Macbeth tried to be little and manipulate Macbeth into killing King Duncan. Lady Macbeth you can say was ambitious too. Because she wanted to become queen, she bullied her husband into killing King Duncan which leads to internal conflict.
A symbol is a person, place, or activity that stands for something beyond itself. Two symbols in Macbeth are the three witches and the ddagger that Macbeth dreamt of. When the three witches talk about meeting with Macbeth in thunder, lighting, and rain. The concrete meaning of this is the witches and the abstract meaning is evil and death. The three witches convinced Macbeth into killing Duncan and Banquo to become thane of Cowdor. The abstract meaning of the dagger that Macbeth saw is fear and death the concrete meaning is the dagger.
The theme is a central idea or message In a work of literature. In The Tragedy of Macbeth the theme is about ambition and the message is that sometimes too much ambition can drive someone into insanity. Macbeth does not learn that it’s better to wait for faith to happen. The way Macbeth learns by killing King Duncan and having to live with that guilt and in order to keep his throne he has to kill others. Resolution to this is by him getting killed and having everyone he loved die around him. The main message of this play is that faith will happen but sometimes it has to be waited on. “I will not yield, to kiss the ground before young Malcolm’s feet.
