In both texts, A Christmas Carol and Macbeth, the main characters change throughout the extent of the novella. This affects the other characters in the story, not always in a good way. Additionally, particular techniques are used to create an atmosphere around these characters. The authors of the original texts are not particularly the only people that have a say in how these protagonists are perceived, they have been presented in all manners of ways; with directors (such as Roman Polanski, director of the 1971 adaptation of the play, and Clive Donner, director of the book to screen reworking in 1984.) and playwright’s having a say in how they should be shown to the audience. The changes of these characters being the basis of the entire story, thus meaning they are essential to how well the story comes across to the viewer. I will answer this question by using key quotations and information that I retrieved from reading the two books front to back and watching the films with deep interest and attention. My main focus of the paragraphs will unmistakeably be about the characters changes throughout the two texts and how they are displayed on page and on screen. Furthermore, I will be commenting on how a very small change or event affects the rest of the entire play. I will be using individual paragraphs titled with a separate theme that will help me answer this strongly and intensely. Finally, I will be stating how the misleading views of some believing that the supernatural are involved is completely incorrect. If you may be so kind, I wouldn’t mind if I began.…
Lady Macbeth has a controlling presence over Macbeth. She constantly states what she is going to do and Macbeth goes along with it.…
“Christmas is the spirit of giving without a thought of getting. It is happiness because we see joy in people. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is discarding the meaningless and stressing the true values” says Thomas S. Monson. This is one intricate message that Ebenezer Scrooge failed to grasp. Ebenezer Scrooge is the narcissistic, avaricious protagonist in Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol. To start off, Scrooge is visited by the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present and the ghost of Christmas yet to come. Each of these three spirits exemplifies a different time in his penurious life. As an attempt to change Scrooge, all of the three spirits…
Scrooge's long-dead business partner is the first ghostly visitor who haunts him, warning him about the visits from the three ghost. Dickens uses Marley as an example of what awaits for scrooge in the future because of his greedy,tight-fisted attitude. When Marley visits Scrooge as a ghost he is weighed down by series of chains representing sins done by Marley throughout his life.…
There is a clear transition between the characters Lady Macbeth and Macbeth; it makes you think about why she was so powerful and why Macbeth was allowing her to overrule his life.…
Macbeth and Oedipus are similar they both had prophecy Macbeths prophecy was, for him to be king, also it was what the witches wanted. “Oedipus’ prophecy was also to become the king of thebes. “O horror, horror, horror!” (Act 2, scene 3). Macduff comes in telling them that the king has been murdered. This shows that now macbeth has a chance at being king and now that king is killed, his turn shall be soon. Oedipus’ prophecy was also to become the king of thebes. As said, “Oedipus' cloud of darkness is "inescapable, unspeakable, unstoppable, driven by cruel winds." (Act, scene). Both Macbeth and oedipus share the similarity of becoming a king, but both have it a different way. Also they both have a lot of murders that happen before they're ever able to become king. Yet both have flaws which are similar and those include, being hubris; having pride, determination, and intelligence.…
Macbeth writes to lady Macbeth telling her of his encounter with the witches and how part of there prophesy had come true making him the Thane of Cawdor. In the letter Macbeth uses loving terms towards lady Macbeth such as 'my dearest partner of greatness' showing that he loved and respected her even in a letter, where he wouldn't be pressured by lady Macbeth into using these forms of affection. He tells her all of the witch's prophesies proving that he trusts her and is willing, if the prophesies come true, to share the wealth with her.…
* Show that the witches can only create the environment, it has to be an act of freewill…
Macbeth is a play filled with murders and lies, but it is not the murderer who is responsible for the most evil in the play. The main character Macbeth kills two important characters in the play, and is responsible for the death of a third. Macbeth is still only the instrument carrying out these evil actions. Other main characters in the play are the three Weird sisters, or the three witches. They are supernatural creatures that prophesize that Macbeth will become Thane of Cawdor and eventually king. They stir Macbeth’s ambition to ascend the throne. Lady Macbeth is Macbeth’s strategic wife that plans the murder of King Duncan. She uses Macbeth’s ambition to acquire more power. Lady Macbeth is responsible for the most evil in the play because she convinces Macbeth to kill the king, and sends Macbeth on a path of destruction.…
Character: Macbeth’s impulsive character is demonstrated here. Macbeth is saying that he will no longer be reflective and contemplative regarding his actions but will act immediately.…

In the era of Macbeth, many of the beliefs were based upon fate. It was a major part of the culture and how everything happens for a reason. In this play by Shakespeare, fate is corrupted by the main character Macbeth; this corruption unbalances the universe. Macbeth provides an example of contradicting the beliefs in this time frame, eventually fate restores the kingdom and the universe balances out. “Tragedy, according to Aristotle, involves usually a noble man fighting against his fate which lies in the hands of God” ( Jean-François Vernay. Literary Contexts in Plays: William Shakespeare 's 'Macbeth '). According to this quote by Vernay, it relates to Macbeth and all the other Shakespearean tragedies. In Macbeth, the main character was a noble man in the beginning and does fight against his fate. At first he tries to make his fate come faster and then later Macbeth tries to contradict it. While, it was really planned out for him the whole time. Macbeth is corrupted by power, causing him to make decisions that interfere with fate, in which witches tell Macbeth he is destined to be king; however, Malcolm is the one who is next in line. Macbeth does anything he can to get the crown which leads to chaos in the kingdom. He kills anyone who is in his way which causes the whole creation of unbalance, arrogance and power corrupts his mind, and once Macbeth is killed the kingdom is restored.…
Another similarity would have to be that Macbeth hires murderers to kill Banquo and his son Fleance, for the murderers kill Banquo yet Fleance gets away. For once Banquo…
Macbeth and Macduff are more similar than expected. For example, both were brave. They are both very hard workers who did their jobs well. They are different in many ways too. Macbeth thought of rewards and promotions. He wanted to be rich and have a lot of power, and he did not worry about other people. He would do whatever he had to do to get his way, and he didn’t care how it affected people around him. Macduff was different. He was very loyal to his country. He put the country and his people first. He was always willing to help and do the right thing. He wanted to please everyone. Macbeth became impatient for power. He wanted to be king and he was willing to do whatever it took to make that happen. He never felt bad when he treated people badly either. He was very influenced by others, and he didn’t always think things through. Macduff did not want Macbeth to be king. He was patient and willing to take his time to plan ways to keep Macbeth from being king. Macbeth was a deceitful, hypocritical, and treacherous King. He wasn’t a good man. Macduff was straightforward, respectful, and honest. He was a better man. Macbeth would stop at nothing to get his way and he didn’t feel bad about it. Macduff was a better person and had a conscience, and when he killed Macbeth, he felt like he had done the right thing for the people.…
