In the beginning of the story, Macbeth is viewed by many as a noble heroic warrior. As the story progresses and Macbeth learns his faith of ruling as king, his ambitions lead him towards the path of a villain. Macbeth never cared for power while he served under king duncan, he fights for his country and his good friend Banquo. When he learns from the witches that he will be crowned king, his character changes from a loyal warrior to a power striving villain that ends in a tragic fall. King Duncan does not know of the brave warrior that has served for him. As the story begins, he speaks with a captain from the battle. The captain speaks of this mighty warrior that should have died in battle but the enemies were too weak for Macbeth. “And fortune on his damned quarrel smiling But alls too weak for brave Macbeth.”( I.2.15) Here Macbeth is given the name of brave. “Yet do I fear thy nature is too full o’th’ milk of human kindness.” Macbeth is now portrayed by his wife of full of human kindness and is too nice to hurt anyone. After Macbeth still refuses to kill the king, she starts nagging and then questions his manliness. Macbeth then changes, he is now willing to do whatever it took to be a man and a king. Macbeths’ character has changed again from him not willing to kill because he is too kind to him willing to do whatever it took. Although he says he would, Macbeth still battles the idea of killing king Duncan. He tells lady Macbeth that he couldn’t do it, he couldn’t kill the king. Lady Macbeth is now upset, she reminds him that he promised her, and she also tells him she would do anything it took if she made a promise. “I would, while it smiling in my face, have plucked my nipples from his boneless gums and dashed the brains out, had I so sworn.”
