In the play Macbeth there are two characters that stand out the most, their names are Banquo and Macbeth. In the beginning, Banquo and Macbeth both honour their king Duncan along with the kingdom.
For example in Act 1,Scene 2 the Captain tells Duncan of the great battle against their arch nemesis.
“For brave Macbeth-he well deserves that name-disdaining fortune with his bransh'd steel which smok'd with his bloody execution, like valours minion carv'd out his passage till he unseam'd him from the nave to th'chaps and fix'd his head upon our battlements”(1,2,16) This qoute describes Macbeth's great effort he put as a warrior into this battle and his loyalty to Duncan. The Captain also discusses Banquo's effort that he and Macbeth put forth together. “If I say sooth,I must report that they were as cannons over-charg'd with double strokes upon the foe”(1,2,36)
After Macbeth and Banquo later met with the witches and they were told of the prophecies, their similarities became differences. As Macbeth became more and more tempted by the prophecies, Banquo resists their temptations. “ Thou hast it now,King,Cawdor,Glamis,all as the weird women promis'd, and I fear thou played'st most foully for't ; yet it was said it should not stand in posterity,but thy myself should be the root and father of many kings. If there come truth from them as upon thee,Macbeth,their speeches shine-why they not verities on thee made good,may they not be my oracles as well and set me up in hope?”(3,1,1) While Banquo is starting to become suspicious and worried,Macbeth's ambitions come into play. Macbeth's is already planning on betraying and murdering his fellow co-commander and friend,Banquo. “With barefac'd power sweep him from from my sight”(3,1,121) said Macbeth to the murders.
