Do you believe in the supernatural? The things we cannot perceive, we tend to ponder on whether or not it is plausible. It is obvious that the supernatural influenced Shakespeare immensely in his play, Macbeth. Macbeth is a series of unfortunate events brought upon by the supernatural resulting in death, greediness, and undesired motivation. The supernatural element of prediction is what pertains the reader’s interest and contributes to the depth of the play itself. Prediction in the play gives the reader a prediction on what will happen to Macbeth’s character over time. The parts of the play where Macbeth tries to keep himself from killing Duncan and the parts where Lady Macbeth’s guilt practically kills her supports the interpretation that prediction can cause terrible outcomes and lead to going crazy and people being able to easily take advantage of you.
In conclusion, the supernatural element of foreshadowing can lead to a poor outcome. Knowing what will happen in your near future has the potential to cause insanity and could even soil your life. This point is demonstrated by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth as they became obsessed with power.
