Macbeth Tragic Victim Essay

A tragic victim is defined as a victim in a tragic drama. Macbeth is a tragic victim due to the actions of the witches, motivation by Lady Macbeth, and his own ambition. The actions of the witches, Lady Macbeth and by Macbeth himself is what eventually led to the demise of Macbeth. The witches are to blame for the problems that Macbeth is facing. They are the ones that told him about the prophecies. One could argue that if the witches had told Macbeth all of the prophecies at once that the entire course of the drama would be changed. The prophecies are taken only on the superficial side by Macbeth. This is the case with the prophecy that “no man born of a woman could defeat Macbeth”. If Macbeth had looked at this prophecy with a deeper meaning then maybe he would have realized sooner that he is in fact dfeatable/ The first prophecy comes true because of others actions and the rest of the actions came true because of Macbeth’s action. This can be interpreted by Macbeth as since the first prophecy about him becoming the thane of Cawdor without his doing then the rest of the prophecies would happen as well no matter the circumstances. Lady Macbeth is manipulative and will use the insecurities of Macbeth against him. Lady Macbeth is a power hungry woman who lived in a time where it was rare for a woman to have power. It was her ambition to have power that drove Macbeth to kill King Duncan. She targets Macbeth’s manhood which forces Macbeth feel obligated to live up to the standards that are set up for him. Lady Macbeth had been the one to plant the idea of killing Duncan in Macbeth’s mind which Macbeth said he would never do and that what she was saying was crazy talk. She makes him feel inferior saying that she would kill him if Macbeth couldn’t. It is the words of Lady Macbeth that convince Macbeth to kill King Duncan which will forever change Macbeth and Lady
