Macbeth's Communication Analysis
In William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, Macbeth’s communication devolves from a knightly figure into an over confidential, tyrannical king. Originally, Macbeth is honourable, brave, a knightly figure as he fights for the king instead of fame and wealth. After the battle, Macbeth is awarded with the title of being thane of Cawdor and he wonders, “The thane of Cawdor lives. Why do you dress me in borrowed robes?” (1:3:109-110). Questioning his reward, Macbeth’s greed is outshined as he doesn’t immediately claim his new title. Eventually, Macbeth receives the title and realizes that part of his prophecy is fulfilled. He ponders whether he should kill the king and snatch the title forcefully in order to complete another part of his prophecy. This pondering is the …show more content…
Looking at his hands, they appear to be bloody and won’t seem to come off regardless of how much Macbeth attempts to clean them. All the while, Lady Macbeth, Macbeth’s wife, stands to the side, hearing and seeing none of what Macbeth is envisioning. Eventually, the insanity wears off, but Macbeth had been drastically affected. Although Macbeth is a still a tad jittery, he evolves into a tyrannical king with too much confidence. “Thou losest labor. As easy mayst thou the intrenchant air. With thy keen sword impress as make me bleed. Let fall thy blade on vulnerable crests; I bear a charmèd life, which must not yield. To one of woman born.” (5:8:8-13). Macbeth taunts his opponent to stab the air as he is wasting time trying to injure Macbeth, who can only be harmed by those not born by women. However, Macbeth is unaware that his opponent is not born by women and can actually harm him. Nonetheless, Macbeth still overconfident, fights until he is decapitated by his opponent. Overall, a role model of a knight corrupted and devolved into an egotistic king who ruled on fear, Macbeth was the character whose communication has changed the

I should have been the one to confront Macbeth. I should have been able to figure out what Lady Macbeth and Macbeth did. I spent hours upon hours analyzing and scrutinizing the Lady’s strange speech from her sleep. If only I had realized it sooner, if only I had just put the pieces of the puzzle together quickly I could have been king. But no, Malcolm took over, and Malcolm got the power. But, I cannot think this way, just look at what happened to Macbeth and his wife. “Stars, hide your fires; Let not light see my black and deep desires.” But it was so obvious! The washing of her hands, her cries over the blood and her stained hands, her eagerness to hide or cover up what she had done. If only I had put the parts together I could have realized…

The witches tell Macbeth that he would soon be rewarded with the title Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor, and the future king of Scotland. Macbeth. Although he questions the validity of the prophecies, Macbeth is curious to know more. Before he was able to question the witches any further they had vanished into thin air, to which restless Macbeth exaggerated out loud, “Stay you imperfect speakers. Tell me more. /By Finel’s death, I know I am Thane of Glamis, /But how of Cawdor? The Thane of Cawdor live /A prosperous gentleman, and to be king / Stands not within my belief, / No more than to be Cawdor. Say from whence /You owe me this strange intelligence” (Shakespeare, 1.3.68-74). Macbeth’s curiosity feeds his desire to attain more knowledge about the prophecies and the use of irony aids in displaying his eagerness to know more about his future. Macbeth does not understand how he can be named Thane of Cawdor while the current Thane still lives. This is ironic because little does he know that the Thane had been removed of his title under the charge of treason and that Macbeth had been appointed the new Thane. The…

Macbeth needed to kill King Duncan in order to get closer to his goal of becoming King but was scared. Macbeth states, “[I]f th’ assassination/ Could trammel up the consequence and catch,/ With his surcease, success; that but this blow/ Might be the be-all and the end-all here,/ But here, upon this bank and shoal of time,/ We’d jump the life to come.” (1.7.2-7). Macbeth is weak and does not have the courage to commit murder. He fears all the consequences and problems that will arise if the King is murdered. A man that is weak and lacks courage shows a feminine quality according to the stereotypical gender roles. Furthermore, Macbeth feels guilty after killing King Duncan in his sleep. He states, “ Methought I heard a voice cry 'sleep no more!/ Macbeth does murder sleep', the innocent sleep,/ Sleep that knits up the ravelled sleave of care,/ The death of each day's life, sore labour's bath,/ Balm of hurt minds,” (2.2.35-39). Macbeth kills King Duncan and he starts to hear voices in his head because of the guilt. Macbeth experiences a shock of hearing these voices as he realizes what he has done. Not to mention, he is weak and cannot control his actions after the murder as he fails to hide the evidence, the dagger. The stereotypical gender roles subvert as weakness is seen as a feminine quality. Then, Macbeth kills the family of Macduff by planning murders using his power. He states, “To crown my thoughts with acts, be it thought and done:/ The castle of Macduff I will surprise/ Seize upon Fife, give to th’ edge o’th’ sword/ His wife, his babies, and all unfortunate souls/ That trace him in his line.” (4.1.149-153). Macbeth feels powerful and wants to take desperate actions. He uses his power as he wants to attack the castle of Macduff. The plan also includes murdering the family of Macduff. Macbeth gets the family killed and is showing signs of power during…

Macbeth is introduced as a humble and honest leader, however as the play continues his blinded ambition leads him down a dark path in which he loses all moral senses. Initially Macbeth is said to be “Brave”, “Noble” and a “Worthy Gentlemen” who is willing to puts his life on the line to protect his kingdom “Thawdor”. This all begins to change after Macbeth hears his prophecy and suddenly his ambition to become king alights. Macbeth is influenced so heavily by his ambition that he loses his original “Nobel” and “Honest” traits and begins plotting the murder of Duncan, “O, never shall sun that morrow see!”. This shows the first stage of the corrupting influence of unchecked ambition taking over Macbeth. Macbeth carries out the murder of Duncan and then soon after begins plotting the murder of his close friend Banqou. This reveals that the influence of Macbeth’s uncontrolled ambition has now completely taken him over. The influence of ambition on Macbeth to stay as king completely wipes his mind of all his morals and all things that were once important to him, Lady Macbeth is portrayed near the begging of the play to mean everything to Macbeth and Macbeth tried to do what he could to please her. However, when Lady Macbeth dies later in the play Macbeth’s only words are “she should of died here after” as he is annoyed at the fact she died at an inconvenient time. This illustrates how the unchecked ambition that has a corrupting influence upon Macbeth turns him against his once noble and honest path.…

Macbeth is a heroic character at the beginning of this play "unseaming men from the nave to the chops." He has much potential as a warrior, and has great love and respect for his country. Coming back from battle one day, he is greeted by three witches, who are known to have great and terrible powers to foresee the future. They meet him with predictions when they greet him as ‘Thane of Glamis' (his present title,) ‘Thane of Cawdor' (a higher rank) and King of Scotland. Macbeth is extremely intrigued by what they say to him, especially once he learns that he has earned the title of ‘Thane of Cawdor' for murdering the traitor Macdonwald. Macbeth believes that since the first two prophecies became reality, the third one must materialize also. But instead of waiting to see it happen without interference, Macbeth takes it upon himself to make sure that the third prophecy comes true. These prophecies prove to be the first bits of motivation for Macbeth's actions (mainly murders) throughout the duration of the play.…

As a result, her desire for power allows her to be stronger, more remorseless, and more driven than Macbeth. In fact, she is fully aware of this when she declares that Macbeth is "art not without ambition, but without the illness should attend it.” This is why Lady Macbeth acts not only as Macbeth's confidant, but his also his controller. Consumed by her desire to become Queen, Lady Macbeth herself plots the murder of Duncan and when Macbeth questions the idea of regicide, she manipulates him with her powerful soliloquies. This is done by condemning her husband’s biggest insecurity; his manhood. She states that Macbeth would be “so much more the man” if he were to follow through with the plan. Lady Macbeth even points out that she herself would even kill her own baby as a means to reach her goals. This drives Macbeth to the point where he is “settled and bend-up” to prove himself. Her condescending inspiration is the first to trigger a change in his morals and attitude. However, as Macbeth’s own ambition starts to flourish and facilitate an obsessive and power hungry killing spree, Lady Macbeth’s character changes as well. She becomes helpless and is reduced to a weak figure that sleepwalks and is constantly trying to wash nonexistent blood from her hands. This is because she is so overwhelmed by the guilt of her treachery that a…

The eye wink at the hand, yet let that be which the eye fears, when it is down, to see”(Ⅰ.ⅳ.48-53). After learning that Malcolm would be king Macbeth’s ambition went into overdrive. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth is not in a position of authority yet still receives praise. Although Macbeth is not in a place of power, he is truly content with his life. Macbeth is looked up to and admired for begin so brave and courageous. In the beginning of the play Macbeth comes off as a genuine man who is admired by many people. This is demonstrated by a member of Macbeth 's battalion who refers to Macbeth as "the great Macbeth." This man is covered in blood and hurt, yet he still speaks of how noble Macbeth is. This really shows how respected and faithful the citizens are to Macbeth. "For brave Macbeth he is the one to whom oh so many praise." (1.2.18), said by the man. Hearing this news of Macbeth is very pleasing to the king, he now sees how noble and commendable Macbeth is, he then decided to give Macbeth the power of being Thane of Cawdor; by doing so he did not know what this decision was going to lead to in the future. The king gave him this power because he saw how fine of a man he was and thought that he would do a good job leading Cawdor with the power that has been given to him. Macbeth

Firstly, having very high Ambition jolts Macbeth to go beyond being the Thane of Cawdor. This is proven when Macbeth says, “If good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair and make my seated heart knock at my ribs” (1.3.138-140). While saying this, Macbeth is basically stating that the act of killing King Duncan has crossed his mind even though it makes his hair stand on the end and his heart pound inside his chest. Macbeth says this after he receives the title of the Thane of Cawdor. This suggests that he will not stop at being just a Thane. When Macbeth says, “The Prince of Cumberland! That is a step on which I must fall down, or else o'erleap, for in my way it lies. Stars, hide your fires; let not light see my black and deep desires: the eye wink at the hand; yet let that be, which the eye fears, when it is done, to see” he expresses his angry and feels ashamed because he is not named heir to the throne by King Duncan (1.4.50-55). “Stars, hide your fires” states that Macbeth wants to cloak his true intensions by being cloaked in darkness. “The eye wink at the hand; yet let that be, which the eye fears, when it is done, to see” foreshadows that Macbeth is soon going to commit something he rather not be able to see. It has been shown through these quotations that ambition leads Macbeth to go beyond his limit.…

She has degraded mentally as well. In her insane sleep talking speech, she inadvertently confess to the murders of Duncan, Banquo, and Macduff’s family (V.i.40-65). She has also developed an excessive fear of the dark, commanding that “she has light by her continually” (V.i.23-24). It is this physical and mental deprivation that eventually beings an end to Lady Macbeth’s story with her taking her own life. While Lady Macbeth is at her lowest, Macbeth himself has never been higher. He no longer relies on anyone, be it his wife or the witches. Macbeth no longer even seems to love his wife, merely shrugging it off when he is told that she committed suicide, saying she picked a bad time to die; “She should have died hereafter” (V.v.17). When Macbeth decides to take to the field and fight for his throne, he accepts the crimes that he has committed and decides to move on anyways. While fighting the enemy, he seems to change back into the old war hero that he once was, showing unquestionable physical courage (Firkins…

Macbeth in the beginning of the play is a noble, humble and honourable person who, without question would sacrifice his life for the liberty of his King, Duncan. As the play progresses he attitude towards life in general changes completely, mainly due to the pressure that Lady Macbeth inflicts on him. However, Lady Macbeth has quite a surprising personality as she is not the stereotypical Elizabethan woman. Lady Macbeth is expected to be fragile, meek, innocent and comforting but in this unusual circumstance Lady Macbeth would very much rather “dashed the brains out” of an infant child. This is plain evidence to suggest that Lady Macbeth is of no stable condition. In addition to this surprising fact Lady Macbeth is cunning and bloodthirsty. She demands Macbeth in Act one, Scene Five to “look like th’innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t”. It is very common for a man to demand a female to pursue tasks but for a woman to demand a man, especially of something like sacrilege, is very unusual. This could mean two things, Macbeth is weak and is unable to depict his own decisions or/and that Macbeth is mentally deteriorating. Macbeth reason with Lady Macbeths orders in his soliloquy in Act one, Scene seven and from the things he…
