The class lectures, and readings were very thorough and unlike my other Social Work courses. I was challenged throughout the duration of this class, to push myself outside of my comfort zone and to study harder and smarter to be successful. By being introduced to a new perspective of Social work practice and assessing how it directly effects communities, and organizations it made me feel proud to have been given the opportunity to further my knowledge in this profession. I thought about the stigma that surrounds macro that is deepened by those who are unaware on its severity and importance in the field of Social Work. It directly affects the micro, and mezzo areas of practicum. It also influences policies, laws and restrictions for clients and agencies. It shapes the possibilities and resources available for Social Workers to utilize when helping oppressed, vulnerable and marginalized individuals. Beforehand, I knew that there was a macro level of practice that existed but, I was not cognizant on the severity that it holds. I wanted to learn more about the professional roles social workers can obtain in a macro setting. I also wanted to learn more about the foundation of this specialty area. This course has taught me that every Social Workers will engage in macro level practice during some point of their professional careers. Hence, every social worker must be familiar with the theories, concepts, and roles that organizational structures implement to effectively serve their clients. One thing that I have learned in this session that I will never forget is that for an organization to be effective it must consistently evaluate and monitor its goals. By doing creating process objectives, and outcome objectives it serves as direct tools to measure its progress. It is easier to split up the tasks between individuals through a Gantz chart to ensure that only one person is held accountable for completion of all required tasks. It also evokes accountability and responsibility
