Macromolecules: Carbon, Hydrogen And Oxygen
Organic molecules are the molecules of life that include Carbon and Hydrogen. Organic molecules consist of four important classes which are lipids, carbohydrates, proteins and nucleic acids. The most important organic molecule is Carbon. Carbon can form with up to 4 different atoms to form chains, rings and branches. Organic molecules also contain monomers. Monomers are the “building blocks” of macromolecules. Macromolecules are made up by chains of monomers, these are called polymers.
Continuing with the four organic molecules are proteins. Proteins provide structure and function and have the chemical structures of Carbon, Hydrogen, Oxygen and Nitrogen. Proteins have various functions such as making and breaking chemical bonds, transport, movement, signaling, regulation and metabolism (cellular process). Peptide Bonds are important while discussing proteins. Peptide Bonds are covalent bonds that join 2 amino acids, amino acids are also proteins monomer. Next are Carbohydrates. Carbohydrates incorporate Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen in a 1:2:1 ratio. They provide short term energy and structure. In addition, Carbohydrates have monosaccharides. These contain a single sugar

The hypotheses for this lab was if the vomit belonged to the butler, then the vomit consisted of lipids and proteins but didn’t include simple sugar and starch. If the vomit is contains lipids, simple sugars, and, starches, then the vomit belongs to the victim’s wife. If the vomit contains lipids, proteins, and simple sugars, than the vomit belongs to the victim. If the vomit contains lipids, proteins, and starches, then the vomit belongs to the best friend.     Carbon has a very unique attribute which is known as “tetra valence” – this is the ability to stable bonds with other elements and also itself.
